How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?
My major is Cybersecurity, however, the career I want relates to cybersecurity technology. An ethical hacker is a person who hacks into a computer network to test or evaluate its security, rather than with malicious or criminal intent. My goal is to become an ethical hacker; providing security to those who need it, and stopping anyone who wants to harm it. Before I had the specific term for them, I always watched movies or tv shows amazed at what they could do with just a tap of a computer key. Some re-enactments were indeed exaggerated, but overall I knew that was the job I truly wanted. On my journey, I have taken computer science classes and participated in various programming projects. Although once I realized programming did not necessarily equal Cybersecurity, I altered my career course. This second semester and even into my sophomore year, I want to really recognize what my passions are in life. Whether Cybersecurity is something that I really want to do, not just because it pays well. I have hobbies I refine into in my spare time that I love more than cyber. One, in particular, could become a career, but I’m only a novice at it and I still have much to learn. What I call it is “film-editing” where I take clips from movies or tv shows, mash them up, and create a video. Once done I post it on various social media outlets. No one has to ask me to do it or tell me to keep going. I just love the way it feels, and hope one day I can reliably make it a career choice. Though it’s starting online, my college experience has already taught me things I can use in the future. That said I am thrilled to see what I can learn in this course and beyond.
