SPAN 102

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

In Spanish 102 I learned a lot about the Peruvian culture. I learned about the food, the music, and even the ruins of the city. I wrote three discussion boards. One about the singer Juan Luis Guerra and a song he sang called “Merengue De Cuna.” The next topic I wrote about was Peruvian food. I chose to write about a delicious dish called “Lomo Saltido.” Finally, I researched a ruin in Peru called the “Moray Inca-Terraced Ruins.” Below I have posted what I wrote in my discussion boards. Enjoy!

These help me gain understanding of the culture because I knew nothing about them before. After researching these certain aspects of the culture, I plan on taking a trip to Peru and really experiencing everything I learned from Spanish 102!

Engaging in Communities

In English, give a brief description of the value of, and importance of, engaging in your immediate community and the global community.

Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester in Spanish 102 I was lucky enough to speak and practice my Spanish with a wonderful woman from Ecuador. Her name was Ximena and we spoke through TalkAbroad twice this semester for a total of thirty minutes. It was really cool to interact with someone I have never met before and only speak the Spanish language. She was also very nice and made it easy for me to understand her. We spoke about places and clothing on the first meeting and daily routines and food on the second meeting.

Presentational Speaking

For presentational speaking in Spanish 102 I did two assignments. The first was four separate Voice Threads. In this assignment my Professor posts questions that we need to record ourselves answer verbally and on video. The second assignment was 4 separate “Entrevistas” where we worked with a partner and basically role played different scenerios such as a hotel clerk and tourist, a customer buying something from someone at a market, and asking eachother questions about routine. These assignments were kind of hard but working with a partner made it a lot easier and made it feel a lot more comfortable.

Presentational Writing

In Spanish 102 I wrote 3 different compositions which abled me to practice writing in Spanish and perfecting it as best I could. posted is one of my compositions which is basically just sentences I put together from pictures my Professor sent me. Writing Spanish has been pretty hard for me but I feel like I am getting a little better at it each time I do it.

Interpretive Listening

In Spanish 102 I did a lot of listening. Mainly through the VHL assignments, I listened and gained much knowledge about different aspects of the Spanish culture. By watching videos called “Flash Culturas” I learned about open-air markets and how they are different from markets where I live. I also learned about foods and different places people work. There were also many VHL assignments that involved listening to conversations and answering questions about what was discussed.

Interpretive Reading

For interpretive reading in Spanish 102 I read articles called Lecturas about different subjects. I learned about siestas, restaurants and menus, and shopping for different styles of clothes. I then had to answer questions about the writing. posted are a few lecturas I read.
