2.1 Case Study

Looking back to our Privacy module, we learned about the different types of privacy there are.  There is in person privacy, which could be someone being too close to you spying on you or trying to get information out of you by observing you.  This invasion of personal space is a huge part of invasion of privacy.  Then there is privacy within our social media and online presence. Which is way harder to detect.

Having privacy in general is important because it gives us a sense of security and control in our lives.  It is important to protect user data because a lot of our personal information is in them.  A lot of this sensitive information should not be shared with just anyone. It is wrong to mine for anyone’s data without their consent. Even if we collectively agree to the data protection statements on social media.  Most of the times people just click “agree” to get it over with, because they trust that they are using a trusted platform, and because everyone else agreed to it.  If people took the time to read more into these agreement statements, then they may be more skeptical about what information they put into social media and using it as a whole.

Just because someone agreed to it does not mean they are fully aware of the facts and consequences that may come after.
