Journal 14 CYSE201S

After reviewing the article, I learned a lot about some things internet users do that are illegal.  All of them had their own set of reasons on why they’re serious violations but the following five covered, were the top serious violations for me.

1. Illegal searches on the internet.

2. Collecting Information about people younger than 13.

The top two violations go hand to hand when referring to child pornography.  As we know, there is a market for people who are willing to buy pornography online or even just view them of children or people who may be over the age of 18, and just look or act very young. This unsettling behavior has led some people in jail, but leaving a large number of offenders still free.  I believe violation number two could even refer to parents who put content of their kids online-like TikTok.  By doing this, something that may seem harmless, they unintentionally open an environment where pedophiles can view their kids as well as collect information about them.  I believe these two are the top violations due to the sensitivity of the nature.

3. Using other people’s information.

Going back to my previous two picks, I believe that some of these predators could create a fake account and pretend to be someone they’re not.  Because for most apps, all you need is an email to log in and create accounts, it’s harder to verify when someone is a legit profile.  This does not only help pedophiles sneak into your lives, it allows stalkers or even just the unethical idea of stealing someone else’s identity (photos, name) which can be harmful to their reputation.

4. Bullying and Trolling.

The internet is not safe! Especially for younger users or people who are emotionally unstable.  Because technology is still evolving, our laws are evolving with them.  Sometimes it’s hard to press charges about things that happen online because police departments are unsure of the actions to take or the jurisdiction that they’re allowed to intervene with. Because of this, a lot of people have fallen into depression or even suicide.  Bullying should be taken more seriously.  Regardless of the circumstances or type of bullying is going on.  I believe this violation is serious because lives depend on it.

5. Using unofficial streaming services.

The points made by the author in this section peaked concerned. Well done! I absolutely agree that if the streaming services are stealing films from other sites, they are capable of stealing your information.  In order to keep ourselves safe from scams or viruses, we need to take this type of internet using seriously.  To prevent any unwanted information stolen.
