How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Cyber technology has created many opportunities for workplace deviance. Deviance is when someone in the workplace violates accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior. One of the reasons cyber technology provides more opportunities for workplace deviance is because people are more comfortable violating these standards on a computer rather than face to face. There are many factors that can lead to work place deviance some of which being job stress, organizational frustration, week sanctions for rule violations, and lack of control in the work environment. One example of how cyber technology creates opportunities for workplace deviance could be that an employee had just been fired and because of this, he is upset and mad at the organization. He could then start leaking confidential information that will hurt the organization that fired him. This is common deviance in the workplace because cyber technology makes it much harder for authorities to catch whoever leaked this information.
