Today I will be reviewing “Cyberattacks, cyber threats, and attitudes toward
cybersecurity policies” by Keren L G Snider, Ryan Shandler, Shay Zandani, Daphna Canetti.
Since the rise in technology and computers the accessibility of computers and the world wide
web has been at an all time high. Anyone from young to old can now access the world wide web
with ease. But that also means that people will become victims of cyber threats and cyber
attacks. This article answers these questions perfectly, “Does exposure to cyberattacks influence
public support for intrusive cybersecurity policies” and ”How do perceptions of cyber threats
mediate this relationship”. In this article it will go over cyber threats and cyber attacks and how
cyber security officials are planning to battle this problem.
This article gives us useful data of an overview on how the countries around the world
are seeing a rise in people accessing the world wide web and with that comes cyber crime and
threats. Then the article gives us data on how the governments around the world respond to this:
forty states in the United States have given out two hundred and eighty bills to prohibit and put a
halt to these threats and crimes. Also Europe is also doing/did a similar thing to the United
States with these bills.
These bills that the governments have given out are to protect the citizens that browse the
world wide web. Then this targets the cyber criminals that are planning to do cyber crime to
these unfortunate citizens.
Then there was a hypothesis that was made and it was if there exposure to cyber attacks
this will translate to awareness of cyber attacks. To prove their hypothesis there were people that
made a controlled survey. In this survey there were fake videos that portrayed cyber attacks so
that there will be exposure and awareness to cyber attacks. In this survey this shows that civilians
that are victims of cyber threats and attacks show to have in trauma, anxiety, and helplessness.
With this article and study that was conducted there will be more people that have
become exposed to cyber crime and cyber threats that are happening right now. With this
exposure the world wide web will be a safer place to browse around. Plus there will be more
precautions and bills that protect you so that you don’t have to worry about cyber threats and
cyber attacks happening to people or even to you.
