The NICE Framework describes seven broad work role categories commonly found within the field of cybersecurity. The categories that I found the most appealing were Protection and Defense as well as the Investigation category. Previously, I completed a course in Digital Forensics that I found truly fascinating. In that class, I got to use some programs and methods to investigate data sources in a mock lab setting. The NICE Framework mentions forensic work as being a part of both the Protection and Defense and the Investigation categories, so I think those categories would appeal the most based on my experiences in previous classes. I also find cyber warfare and the offensive side of cybersecurity to be an intriguing subject, which would fall under the Cyberspace Effects category of the framework. On the other hand, I would find the Oversight and Governance work group to be the least appealing. It seems more aligned with a leader-type personality, and I prefer being a part of a team instead of being in a leadership role. It is just not an area I would be comfortable with or be able to excel at, and I think it is important to recognize one’s strengths and weaknesses.
