The video describing the job of a cybersecurity analyst touches on several social themes. First, there was a general description of tasks which included a help desk role, dealing with phishing scams, and user training. While these tasks do have a technical basis the main aspect is people, not technology. From a technical skill standpoint, phishing is perhaps the most primitive of cyberattacks. There is no sophisticated backdoor or advanced decryption malware needed it just tricking people into doing something like giving away their password or credit card number. The solution to these problems is found in understanding how people use and understand technology around them. The task would be effectively teaching others how to recognize common red flags and avoid these types of problems. The presenter also highlights the importance of networking in the cybersecurity field. She also touches on how the perception of your skills can be more important on a resume than the skills itself. So while the position of cybersecurity analyst does recognize strong technical skills the social aspect cannot be understated.
