After reading the article, I found the bug bounty approach to be an effective and innovative approach to finding and fixing vulnerabilities in an organization’s cyber infrastructure. The policy motivates people knowledgeable in cyber to help out your organization for several motives. First, there is the obvious financial gain for the bug bounty hunter, but the policy also appeals to them as a challenge and for bragging rights of discovering a weakness that a major company missed. At the end of the day, the vulnerability exists and will eventually be discovered. It is better for the finder of the vulnerability to be motivated to do good than to exploit it. A bug bounty policy is also just a good cost/benefit analysis for both the organization and the hacker. For the organization, the price you pay out for the bounty will pale in comparison to the financial strain of a breach. Then for the hacker, they still receive financial gain without worrying about legal repercussions. Overall, it is a policy that can benefit all sides of the cybersecurity equation.
