The presenter and his career journey highlight how digital forensics investigation is related to social sciences. In fact, at the beginning of his career digital forensics or cybersecurity was not a field one could even study. His educational background was actually in accounting. While working in his accounting job, his company requested help in the information technology department. Despite having no formal computer-centric education, his experience tinkering with them allowed him to transfer into IT. From his work in IT, he was presented with an opportunity to transfer to a digital forensics job. Even though his education was in a separate field, he was still able to use skills gained, such as attention to detail, to apply them to a field that did not even exist when he was a college student.

As he explained the work that he does in digital forensics investigations it becomes easy to see how his field relates to the social sciences. Digital forensics is the study of human behavior and the evidence that behavior leaves behind digitally. Due to the importance of technology in modern life, his work has great implications for the study of sociology. Then with the nature of some of his cases criminology and the legal landscape are of great importance as well.
