I have hit my 250 hour mark with my internship with Apple Federal Credit Union.
So far I have had a great experience working here. They have trusted me with various responsibilities and permissions that I never thought I would get access to. This shows that they trust me as a professional and I greatly appreciate it. Due to this trust I have been able to learn about many different systems and how they work behind the scenes. Even if I am not responsible for tickets concerning a certain system they are more than willing to let me shadow them and give explanations to what they are doing.
I also completed my 6 week ramp up plan that I was initially given. I loved the flexibility that came with it. I was able to move faster or slower week to week depending on how much time I had and if I wanted to learn more about a certain area. It also included various 1 on 1 sessions with Tier 2+ personnel who specialized in certain applications. The amount of support from the team has been wonderful and they all want to see me succeed. During my time here so far I believe that I have been successful in my own way. I never knew I could pick stuff up as fast as I have been and I have been building my troubleshooting skills to a level I didn’t think I would reach. Their help has let me break what I thought were my own limitations.
For this check in’s interview, I chose one of the most passionate people when it comes to technology on the desk. The contractor, Micheal Steedly –
Q: Who or What sparked this passion for technology?
A: Many people during my life have steered me to this discipline. Mainly my mentor who helped me with getting my certifications like A+, Security+, and Network+. I also met people from my church who were very smart and helped.
Q: What made you enter the IT field rather than another technology related field?
A: I always loved computers as a kid growing up playing games on them. I am also the IT specialist at my church so that is where I learned my foundation and why I got into it as well.
Q: If you could change anything about your path in IT what would it be?
A: I think it is too soon to make that verdict. However, I would have loved to learn from people who were already in the field more. So that I wouldn’t have to make as many mistakes, and I could have learned from theirs.
