I am interested in Cybersecurity because growing up I enjoyed watching movies where they would require a hacker either for the good side or bad side. Either way I found that it was enjoyable to imagine that I was the hacker and saying the famous Hollywood line “I’m hacking into the mainframe.” To me it just seemed cool and it had all of the components of a job that sounded good for me. As I grew up I figured that this idea was very non-practical and that I more than likely was just not going to be a hacker. I switched my focus to a culinary route for a while up until I got to the summer of my junior year. During that time we chose classes for the next school year and a class was presented to me called “Intro to Computer Basics.” I figured that this class would be a freebee and it would help me raise my GPA and while it did that it also made me remember my love for hackers. For the most part this class just taught the basics of all types of computer related things like careers, parts, and how they run. I knew most of the basic things in there because I had made and set up a pc during the same year. The class went through its units and one of them was cybersecurity. I was completely blind to the concept of it until we progressed through the unit and it changed the path that I decided to go down. It made me want to pursue cybersecurity because of how technical the world has become and how I could help nurture in the new wave of tech. In this unit we had to sign up for a program called “Cyberstart” in which you would do cybersecurity styled puzzles to teach you the basics of cybersecurity. This was the reason that I became truly interested in wanting to start a career in cybersecurity.
