Cybercrime and criminal justice are two very important topics that deal with the same general concepts. There are things that make them different though even though they are similar. To understand what parts overlap in each topic you have to look at the definition of both and then compare them. Criminal justice is a more broad topic because it has to cover more sub-concepts including cyber crime. The definition for criminal justice based on google is, “Criminal justice is the delivery of justice to those who have been accused of committing crimes. The criminal justice system is a series of government agencies and institutions.” Cybercrime on the other hand is for technical based crime as opposed to the general delivery of justice. The definition for cybercrime is criminal activities carried out by means of computers or the internet. These topics will overlap because they are both related to criminal activity even though one is based on internet crime and the other is all crime. Topics that would be brought up for both within a venn diagram would be, hacking, ddos, and phishing. These are common crimes committed on the internet by black-hat hackers. The goal for the hackers is to either find and gather information or to steal money through technical means. Due to the fact that all of these listed are crimes they would also fall into the bubble of criminal justice. Both of these terms would be included in recent modules that we had done. One for example that tends to ride the line of cybercrime is stalking while using technology. This is a topic that gets argued because there are many ways to stalk someone online and while it is creepy the internet is about as regulated as it’s going to be. It’s almost impossible to accuse someone of stalking because what would be considered wrong in real life doesn’t mean it’s wrong on the internet.
