Cyber technology is a gift and a privilege but that doesn’t mean that every single person will use technology responsibly. There will be those select few that will continue to do activities that are morally wrong. People can do all types of things in real life and then they have to face the consequences but when online people feel more powerful. There are many different scenarios where the victim has to or doesn’t have to interact with an offender. If a crime is committed in real life like assault with a lethal weapon then the victim will easily be able to get a restraining order if that’s what they want to do. This will allow the offender to not be able to be within so many feet away from the victim. This unfortunately doesn’t stop those online from contacting the victim. If the offender wanted to they could harass the victim online or even take a level higher and commit another crime on the victim. While the crime might not go unnoticed it is a very possible thing that can happen. If you go back in time even just 100 years ago crimes could really only be done if the victim and the offender were face to face. Now that we are in the twenty-first century things have changed and it’s a little bit different. There are some laws and professionals made to stop people from doing bad things on the internet but it’s not to a point where it’s regulated enough to stop everyone. Cyber technology can also be done on the side of the victim. There are many things that people do on the internet that are legal but not morally correct. If the victim is worried that a restraining order won’t help them enough they can use open source intelligence to look up the person and try and figure out as much about them as possible to stay safe.
