My overall reflection of my experience of my first semester in college :))))))
Your First Semester
From August to December I can definitely say I have grown a lot while being in college. I transitioned from a happy college student to a stressed, overstimulated, and overthinking college student. I feel as if I did not meet my expectations for the school year which is to focus on your schoolwork and study. I did not meet requirements due to me not pushing myself hard enough this semester. Something I wish I knew 14 weeks ago is how isolated I would be. I have no family and a few friends to depend on while I’m on college campus.
Study Habits
My studying habits haven’t changed since the beginning of the semester. Like most college students I.ve heard, studying is kind of difficult for me since there is a lack of focus. Although, sometimes I would meet my peers in the library or webb center to study notes for the upcoming exams. In addition, I didn’t use any resources or any tools for any of my work this semester. It would be a good idea for next semester to try any resources to help me with my assignments. For instance, I can check out books from the libraries or buy textbooks from the bookstore.
Health Professions Learning Community
In the following classes:HLTH 101, SOC 201S, CHEM 105N, and CHEM106N, and HIST 104H there is correlation between the five. These classes all can correlate to the College of Health Sciences Majors. They prepare you for what the health and medicine fields have in stock for you in the future. For instance, SOC 201S and HIST 104H talk about similar subjects which deal with the sociological impact of dealing with patients in the medical field. In CHEM 106N, we do lab procedures to help us with the education of chemicals when we are into the medical field. Also, what we learn in SOC or HIST reflects our HLTH 101 class by that information being used for some of our class assignments.
Parallel Plan
We had a lot of guest speakers from different Health Sciences majors in our HLTH 101 class. Some of the guest speakers breakdown in depth what they did for each of their tasks. Two majors I would consider majoring in are Public Health and Nuclear Medicine. I would major in public health because it correlates to the nursing field and it talks about improving the health in a community. I found nuclear medicine interesting after doing the hands on procedure with the test dummy. Also, you get to use radioactive tracers to find diseases and diagnosis in the patients. Having a parallel plan in place for these two majors is important due to the fact that any major in the Health Science Field is not an easy task. You have to develop study habits, hard work, volunteering, shadowing, and a lot of research.
