Psych 317: Quantitative Methods 

Statistics justifies Psychology as a science and is a required skill for advancing any science.
In addition, understanding mathematical principles is required for the proper consumption
and application of statistical techniques. The course is an essential foundation to future
endeavors like being a knowledgeable citizen/scientist, PSYC 318, and/or wanting to
attend graduate/professional school. upon completing this course I gained the following knowledge:
1) Mathematical principles underlying the statistics covered
2) Acquired skills in performing and interpreting the statistics covered
3) Know the role of statistics in scientific research and reasoning

Psych 318W: Research Methods

This course is an overview of the principles and methods of scientific research common in the field of
psychology. Theory and hypothesis development, reviewing the literature, experimental design, data
analysis, and scientific technical writing is emphasized. The “W” at the end of the course number
indicates that this is a writing-intensive course and that at least 51% of the course grade must come
from written work. I gained knowledge in the following: critiquing scientific claims; assimilating information from psychological studies to form logical and novel research questions; understanding the research process and the methods associated with psychological research; and ethically collecting, analyzing, and reporting research findings.
