I am doing well in chemistry, history, sociology, and ethics. I am doing well in chemistry because I use youtube videos to help me with topics I don’t understand. I am also part of a study group with one of my peers. I am still doing well in history because I do the majority of the discussion posts on time and I look over the test reviews. I am doing well in sociology because I do the practice quizzes and the test reviews. In the learning styles self-assessment I identified history as a class I need assistance in. The main change I have made is reading over assigned materials so I can be prepared for class discussions.
My expectations coming to college was to do well in my classes, make friends and participate in club/activities. My expectations have come to fruition because I am doing relatively well in all my classes. I also have some pretty good friends. I signed up for some clubs such as the pre-health club and the student nurses association. I didn’t have many expectations coming into college. My experience in college so far isn’t bad. There have been many ups and downs. What surprised me is how quickly the semester is going. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that we have about two months left until this semester is over. I didn’t find the move to college very challenging. My family and I knew it would happen and we came to terms with it. Also, we talk to each other on the phone so I don’t feel very separated from home.
Something I learned about my intended major is that during my junior and senior years, I can’t take any other classes besides the nursing classes. My feelings towards my major haven’t changed. Nursing is something that I am passionate about. Some thoughts I’m having regarding my major is that I may not get in and I need to be more involved with my school and the community to stand out. I am interested in minoring in Spanish if possible.
A challenge I encountered this semester was a hold on my account from the student health center. I called their office and asked what it was about and they gave me detailed instructions on how to fix the problem. One of my friends helped me with chemistry. She helped explain some of the topics I was unsure about. I haven’t attended an interest meeting because I was still trying to get my study/homework habits down. However, I plan on attending an HRL student staff information session this week.
