Dear 449W:
You taught me that there is more to becoming an SLP than anatomy and background knowledge. I now know that metalinguistics plays a crucial part when assessing a patient. Personally, I have gained a better understanding on how to incorporate the proper usage of metalinguistics to help me in the future when talking to other professionals. I learned the importance of SOAP notes and how they play a role as a clinician and as a student!
Now, for me, writing will consist of paying much more attention to detail. I will continue to use The Syntax Handbook as I finish out my career as a student and eventually a professional.

Becoming an SLP
Becoming an SLP is no easy task
Why is that, do you ask?
Well, anatomy plays a big role
We use our brains to help clients meet their goals
Knowledge is ultimately the key
We must get our master’s and claim our CCC’s!
We work with people every age
Apraxia, dementia, dysphagia
People within every stage.
A plethora of settings we can be in
The best field to get your degree in
Say, a baby with aphasia…you’d think there’d be no hope
With hard work, dedication, and building relationships
We do more than just help them cope.
An older gentleman with Parkinson’s Disease
We do our absolute best to ensure they are at ease.
Oh how rewarding it will be
To dedicate my life to becoming an SLP.
