Why am I interested in cybersecurity technology?
Cybersecurity has proven to be the core of the internet that we love and use every day. From shopping online, to streaming services and social media; the frameworks and cybersecurity programs put in place by companies are the reason we use these services fearlessly. In the world of modern technology that we live in today, change comes at an instant; with new technology always being introduced to the public for our pleasure and entertainment. It is a change that is promising and rewarding, should the security stay formidable. As someone who is inspired by growth, I am adamant about playing a part in the change that we all love.
When I first started college, I was unsure of exactly what I wanted to study or be in life, so I took it upon myself to get jobs in different career fields to see what would spark my interest. Through this journey, I found myself working with Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is a company that focuses primarily on cloud computing, which is essentially data storing over the internet. As I have come to learn more about cloud computing, I realized just how much companies rely on the security of their sensitive information. And then it hit me; I and many others have used social media, online shopping, and streaming services without batting an eye of the potential cybersecurity risks that are involved with having our data stored on the internet. It was this point that I knew that Cybercrime was the career path for me.
Cybercrime interests me because you are constantly challenged by new forms of risks. As an individual who loves to learn more and more every day, I realized that this career would allow me to continuously grow with technology while also feeling a sense of satisfaction knowing that I am deterring potential threats to those who use the internet. Whether it is in form of illegal activities occurring on the dark web, or credit card scams, I am determined to join the movement of creating a safe place for companies and individuals like myself, to continue fearlessly using online services. For the same reason that people join the military, police departments, or first responders, I find myself gaining the same satisfaction knowing that I will someday take on Cybercrime. The big difference for me is that unlike the examples I just listed, technology grows at a faster rate, therefore, I will continue to grow and become more knowledgeable about the potential dangers that we may be blind to.
