Researchers may use this information to better understand data breaches and the types of industries effected. Doing so will assist within U.S. legislation, or for student’s that are completing research on topics such as information governance. Data can be viewed by state, and information that is available has been gathered from January 1, 2005 to February 7, 2022. Although the list is not comprehensive to every data breach over time and its type, it provides excellent evidence of the types of data breaches and the organizations with the largest number of reported data breaches.
