Within the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (the NICE Framework) there are many categories of interest to potentially pursue. Upon review, areas that I would like to focus my career on are ‘Collect and Operate’ and ‘Investigate’. Cybersecurity functions of Collect and Operate involve providing “specialized denial and deception operations and collection of cybersecurity information that may be used to develop intelligence” (Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework) | NICCS, n.d.). While Investigate involves investigating cybersecurity “events or crimes related to information technology (IT) systems, networks, and digital evidence” (Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework) | NICCS, n.d.). Specific specialty areas of those categories that I am most interested in include Cyber Operations, Cyber Investigation, and Digital Forensics. This decision stems from my deep desire to make a meaningful impact in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring the safety and security of individuals and organizations. As I continue my educational journey, I am committed to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and acquiring the necessary skills to excel. The area that I find the least interesting is under the ‘Operate and Maintain’ category of the framework. The Nice Framework explains that this career field provides, “support, administration, and maintenance necessary to ensure effective and efficient information technology (IT) system performance and security”. Specialty areas include Customer Service and Technical Support and Data Administration to name a few.
