Why Am I Interested In Cybersecurity?

  1. CHALLENGING FIELD: With the exponential growth in technology, so too has grown the need for secure information technology systems. Considering there is a potential entry point for attack in each device, cyber technology can have a detrimental impact for those that would exploit vulnerabilities in security infrastructures. Due to the evolving potentialities and complexities, garner the need for cybersecurity professionals
  1. JOB SECURITY: With a zero percent unemployment rate, having a career in such a high demand field as cybersecurity guarantees opportunities for job placement. An educational degree and proper certifications allow for ample job prospects and career advancement. This provides both career security and financial stability.
  1. SOCIETAL IMPACT: Widespread disruption is a potential effect of cyberattacks that has a societal impact. Additional offenses, such as cyberbullying, cyber-harassment, cyberstalking, phishing, hacking, malware, and spyware can impact all members of society – individuals, businesses, and governments alike. Combating cyber-offenders ensures that specific cyber-“freedoms” can remain in place.
  1. DIVERSITY & REPRESENTATION: Women and minorities are underrepresented in cybersecurity. With 11% of the cybersecurity workforce being woman, the percentage that are African American is significantly less. I would like to change that. Within this field, I want to serve as a role model within my community to encourage African American woman to enter cybersecurity.
