This semester so far has been interesting and not what I expected originally in UNIV 150. University 150 has taught me that I have strengths in writing but as well have weaknesses that I need to improve on. I have multiple plans to address my writing concerns for the class in the future. My transition has gone smooth, but not as smooth as it could have been.

I have identified I have good ideas and can create an essay pretty quickly now. When I have gotten my writing assignments checked by the writing center they said I had a good paper, but small changes needed to be made. Before It took me a long time to think of topic wondering if it was good enough or not My weaknesses include word choice, the structure of essays, and grammar mistakes. Luckily these weaknesses are not hard to change and can be fixed with more and more practice.

I have multiple plans to help improve my writing skills and weaknesses. The first approach I’m going to take is putting more time into my papers so I can have less of those grammar mistakes and take more time to focus on the structure and really put more time into each assignment. Another way I can improve is by going to the writing center or my instructor more often having them proof read my papers before I turn them in so I can improve any small mistakes immediately.

Overall my transition to college was good enough that I cannot complain. All my instructors were very kind and explained thoroughly what was going to happen in the class with little confusion. I have had trouble with assignments sometimes unclear as well as forgetting sometimes when an assignment is due. Although I have changed my ways and have become more independent and responsible. I am managing my social life and academic life very balanced as well. The environment is definitely different but that’s what makes it college and I am learning to love it.

The first six weeks of college have been mostly what I have expected. I have had a little trouble transitioning, not knowing what to do at for certain situations. The environment was different, but I have transitioned and now know the campus inside and out. My writing skills will continue to improve over time and I plan to have better essays and writing assignments with hard work.

Journal #1 If I had the choice of anywhere I could live in the U.S. It would be D.C. It is an hour from my parents house and around other family. The distance isn’t too far or too close from my family. The district also has many available job positions related to my degree I am pursuing, which is cyber security/IT. I also have always been around D.C since I was a child and love the area and architecture of the District.

Journal #2 The Webb Center is a meeting place for me and my friends. It’s a wide building with 2 floors and all the information you need to know about the campus or other information you need . It also has a food court with popular franchises such as “Chick-fil a”,”Pizza Hut”,”Panda Express” and a few more you can purchase with your meal plan for ODU. It’s in the middle of campus in between Constant Hall and Kaufman Hall.

Journal #3 The dorm life so far has been as different as I expected. A lot of people run through the halls and talk in the common rooms at every time of the day including late night. I have to be independent and get food, do my laundry, go to class and much more by myself without anyone telling me. It has definitely made me more responsible in the way that I had to adjust to or I would not succeed. Although sometimes I do wish I had my own room and house to myself and/or roommates.

Journal #4 My favorite sport has always been football since I was so exposed to it due to my dad loving the sport. I love watching and playing it as much as I love talking about it or even playing football video games with friends. My favorite part of the sport isn’t actually playing it’s the process from the beginning. The physical training together as a unit getting better everyday building a whole new team. All the memories with your teammates and the amount of discipline and commitment someone needs to play this sport is incredible. The hours of film, lifting, practice, treatment the athletes put into this sport takes up the majority of a day, which I have tons of respect towards.

Journal #5 The weather has changed rapidly these past 2 weeks. It went from sunny 80 degree weather to rainy for a few days and now for the past few days it has been freezing with temperatures of 50 degrees ,although it is sunny, the wind and temperature just overpower the warmth from the sun. I do not like the rapid change from hot to immediately freezing. I’d prefer a smooth transition from being hot to cold outside. Now I must dress accordingly to the weather to ensure I do not go underdressed for the day.
