It is so hard to believe that the end of the semester is here and that I am wrapping up my  E-Portfolio for your course. I definitely believe that I have fulfilled my expectations for this course because I feel like I set very realistic goals for myself. I believe that psychology is apart of every business and career. Social skills are key in todays world especially for students who are looking to start their careers so a Social Psychology class was a perfect. Once you understand people you can better control yourself and your emotions and thoughts. You can be more intune to yourself and other peoples needs and with everything I have learned through this class I feel like I am a much better communicator which is great since my degree will be in Communications. This semester was super tough for me so on a personal level with many things happening which made life very chaotic so I knew that I needed to be extra organized so I scheduled out my entire weeks worth of assignments which helped out tremendously. Communication is probably the most valuable lesson I have learned through this class. Learning to articulate what I actually feel or mean will only help me with future relationships personally and professionally.

Blog 9

This class has been one that I have truly enjoyed because I feel like I have been able to pertain everything we have learned to my life which is pretty cool.  I have learned so much in just how people think and operate and why they do such things. I have also learned how much we are influenced my society and how we idolize people simply because they are famous. I feel like this book confirmed the things our parents and grandparents use to say such as we like people who like us and some others. I am also taking a The Psychology of Women this semester annd honestly the courses are very similar. One big thing we covered in both courses was how women are viewed in the public eye and the how we are viewed as sex symbols. Fortunately in today’s world women are no longer taking that lightly they are speaking up about encounters they had to edure by powerful men which I beleive is a step in the right direction.

I generally agree with most of what was said in the article, these things seem to have become the societal norm. Prior to consummation there are stereotypes for men who sleep around and stereotypes for women who sleep around but the ones for women generally have a more negative approach to them. I believe this to be usually upsetting to the female populous based on feeling of inequality but men thrive off of the idea of constantly taking a new woman home and don’t seem to care about the opinion society puts on them for it. Once in a relationship, and depending on the relationship, I would say conflict arrises from a lack of communication. Commonly men are more reserved about their feelings and tend to be less emotional than women, which can lead to irritation, anger and annoyance from the woman. Women, on the other hand, expect men to be able to read their minds which leads to irritation, anger and annoyance for the men. This could go on to a full blown paper on how a woman angers a man and how a man angers a woman based on different experiences from different people but if the two people in a relationship do not learn how to approach and resolve conflict then the relationship either won’t last long or won’t be a healthy one.

In a way Self- Regulation is Emotional Intelligence or at least a big part of it. We always hear how children need to learn to self-regulate which is very true because a person who does not know how to do that is very unstable most of the time. People around someone who can’t self regulate feel as if they’re walking on egg shells because they do not want to set that person off. I have always been told that I am wise beyond my years even as a four year old simply because I was always well behaved and acted as if I was an adult. I never was a child who through a fit in public or who would cry over something that really didn’t matter. As I got older I could understand and read people just like my mom can, I could just look at a person and could tell if they needed a hug, a friend, to be left alone, or a shoulder to cry on. Since then I have always been the person that EVERYBODY wants to talk to about their issues because “I always know what to do”. I don’t necessarily believe I always know what to do or say but I feel as if I do a very good job at helping people but there is always room for improvement such as me learning both sides to the story before giving my opinion or advice. You always want to believe your friends are the good people in a bad situation but sometimes that isn’t true and unfortunately I have defended a friend who lied to me about something that was going on in her life. I took an Emotional Intelligence Quiz online and I score a 59 and it was out of 75 total points. Below is a better description of my score.

This video shed a light on a topic many people just go with and that is “Sex Sells”. We all know that companies do this but we just don’t pay it much mind until it is front and center like it is in this video. Companies use women as promoters and props for their products every product from a perfume to a cheeseburger it is honestly ridiculous. I chose some photos that I interpreted in a not so easy way. The first being a beauty company with a woman with a black eye and the other half of her face is flawless, all that is showing women is that you can cover your bruises up with their product. The second is a billboard calling an overweight woman a whale…I mean seriously that’s disgusting. The third picture is a perfume add and there are four men all around this one practically naked woman and one that looks like hes going to sexually assault her. The fourth is for PeTA which I can understand their campaign of “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” but why does is have to be a girl who is probably like a size  0 or 2. Last but not least number 5 …how on earth did this company come up with this idea of marketing their beer with a pregnant woman. It amazes me what we have  resulted to and the thinks companies make seem so normal in today’s society. Blog 6
