Making the transition from high school to college was not very easy. As a first-generation student my understanding of college life was through the perception of friends and teachers. I started my first semester wandering through classes without making any connections or friendships. Back in High School I was not the type of person to communicate with strangers and this hindered me from getting many opportunities or making connections. I never thought I could overcome to this enormous obstacle. But everything took a turn in my second semester; I started meeting new people who shared the same interests as me. I made many connections in the Engineering Department also, I met a PhD candidate who is now my mentor. I am happy for choosing Old Dominion University.
