ATA4: The purpose of this assignment was to choose a country we want to visit or have already visited and a topic discussed in class and apply it together. Mine was Colombia and Psychological Trauma. I learned that disorders like anxiety, mood disorders, and depression can be influenced by other factors other than genetics. In abnormal psychology, psychological disorders could be influenced socially and environmentally. This assignment was personally relevant to me because the entire side of my mom’s side of my family lives in Colombia. My uncles, aunts, cousins, grandma and grandpa all live in Colombia and how they deal with trauma and violence there effects us living here in Virginia as well because we care about their well being.
ATA3: Assignment three was so cool! I loved having to look up other peoples blogs and hear about their experiences and write about them. I read a blog by Claire Hershey about working with children with disabilities in Serbia. It was so nice to learn about what she saw and how her mindset changed between arriving in Serbia and leaving. Seeing the pictures she posted and where she lived and visited for her time being was also nice to search up. Studying Abroad is something I’ve always wanted to experience and seeing all these other bloggers share there’s makes me want to put in gears!!
ATA2: Assignment two was very intriguing to know how Americans view certain values and how other countries view that same value or how they approach it. I learned so many new perspectives and trying to imagine what someone else with a different perspective towards that value would feel and think about the American way. I chose Practicality and Efficiency because that is something I am familiar with. I believe in the way Americans view this as being straightforward and realistic. It applies to my life for my job, relationships, and school.
ATA1: Assignment one was an assignment that put into perspective what type of thinker you are when it came to different cultures and ways of life. Reading into the article there were actual words and definitions of what type of person you could be. The assignment was relevant to me because I can personally say I am one of those people who come from two different types of cultures and I learn about each and use my knowledge to make decisions. I chose the image below because you can see hands painted with different flags. It shows several countries who all have different cultures and values.
