Weekly Blog Ten:
Comparing what I wrote in my first blog entry I still agree with it. This course has really opened my mind and way of thinking. Applying psychological topics not only to our culture but others was a really good learning experience. At first I felt like the ePortfolio was going to be confusing but ultimately I did really well on all the course objectives. I personally wouldn’t change anything if I took this class again I feel really accomplished especially for an online course and dealing with other courses and work and life on top of this. Academically I have grown throughout this course by managing my time and school work effectively. I would use what I learned in this course professionally because I know I will come across patients from different backgrounds and cultures and I can assess and help them efficiently with my new knowledge.

Weekly Blog Nine:
I loved how creative this course was! The assignments were really fun and interesting to do research on and write about. Assignment two was one of my favorites. It was a really good learning experience to learn American ways of living and morals compared to other countries. Assignment three was also really cool because I learned about a topic not really spoken about. Learning about a student like me visiting Serbia to work with people who had disabilities was really eye opening. This entire ePortfolio correlates all together in the end when you do an assignment you do an assignment takeaway to discuss your findings. When you complete a blog post it typically correlated with what we will be learning that week, etc. While do the last assignment it really put into perspective the similarities and differences between cross cultural psychology and other courses. Learning about different cultures while putting it in the aspect of psychological topics is really interesting. For example I learned about how violence in Colombia effects and causes psychological trauma. Learning about psychological trauma and disorders in Abnormal Psychology helped with this course.

Weekly Blog Eight:
I personally haven’t focused on people’s facial expressions from different cultures. I also am surrounded by a majority of American people so I don’t really pay attention to those things. My family in Colombia from what I observe have the same facial expressions towards the same emotions as I do. I expected their expressions to be no different. The concept of universality and cultural display rules do explain the emotions I was going through and what I was experiencing whether it was happiness, agony, grief, etc.

Weekly Blog Seven:
I do and do not believe that fairy tales reflect a shared set of cultural norms and values. Why? Because they are fairy tales and they are meant to explore and imagine what others don’t think of. It could also be something that everyone is expected to follow and the person finally achieves it. For example, like getting married in a princess movie and the princess falling in love with the prince. That can be a fairy tale but it is also reflecting cultural norms and values for women. Egalitarian roles on younger audiences I believe is a good thing because it is breaking that cultural gap that this how things are and should remain. It allows people to view things differently and open their way of thinking and to be more accepting. I cannot really think of a movie in which I identify with a character because all I watch are like serial killer shows and mystery movies lol.

Weekly Blog Six:
In the aspect of education I satisfy autonomy because I chose the path I want to take and the degree I want to acquire. I was able to make choices and pursue them. For competence, I fall into this category because when I’m studying something or doing an assignment or test that is the only thing I am focused on because it is something I am passionate about. I like to be questioned and challenged and expand the way I see or think about things. Lastly, relatedness is something I agree with in the aspect of education because it is good to build relationships with the people around you. Psychology is not an easy field so it’s good to build friendships with your teachers and peers because we are all or already have gone through these same requirements to be where we want to be.

Weekly Blog Four:
My test grade was pretty good considering this is an online class so it is not so personal like it would be in an on campus type setting. For a 50 question test I only missed 7 questions so I think I did pretty well. I used your study guide and answered each question so I would be familiar with the material. The power points also helped me answer the study guide thoroughly. I will use this same strategy on the next exam and I can only get better scores from here on out if I stick to how I am studying.

Weekly Blog Three:
Neuroticism is scored in the in between high and low so in the middle. In extroversion I scored in the middle as well. In openness I scored in the low section. In agreeableness I scored in the high section and for conscientiousness I scored in between the middle and high section. For the section in neuroticism I agree because I have my times where I’m feeling low and moody but I also have my good days. In extroversion I also agree with my score in the middle because I can be really social and I also like my privacy and being left alone. In openness I scored low and that is true to me because I don’t open up to many people only a select few and I don’t really let my real emotions show. In agreeableness I scored high and I second that because I am very understanding and I like to go along with other people to avoid conflict and mixed emotions “If y’all are happy I’m happy.” Lastly, conscientiousness I scored higher than the middle section but lower than the high section and I agree with that calculation because for the most part I am aware and observant.

Weekly Blog Two:
Some values really important to me is to be happy. Do what is beneficial for you and your future. I chose to pursue higher education because I want a successful career and life. I want to make a difference in other people’s lives and to do that I need to acquire a degree. My parents and peers didn’t have a huge impact on continuing higher education because that is something I wanted for myself from the start. If I chose something different I know my family and friends would support me.

Weekly Blog One:
My expectations for this course is pretty straight forward. The course objectives literally pinpoint what I hope to gain and learn about in this class. I want to expand my knowledge in cultural diversity and apply it in everyday life and interactions with my peers. Some strategies to implement for this course to ensure success is to study and communicate with my professor.
