Assignment 5: This assignment was a big eye opener for me. I really enjoyed doing the assignment 5 because it was different. I learned that you should always try to be a blessing to someone whether it is something big or small. People do not help out others as much because everyone stays to themselves. Back in the old days, people could go to their neighbors and ask for some milk or sugar, nowadays people do not even know who their neighbors are. This assignment reminds me of the time when My Youth Ministry at church took the kids to a nursing home to volunteer. The youth did chores for the patients and they spent time with them. It warmed their hearts. They really enjoyed it and the patients in the nursing home enjoyed it. This reminded me that no matter how big or small the deed is towards anyone, being a help towards anyone can be a blessing towards the person you are helping and yourself.
Assignment takeaway 4:This assignment was very interesting. I did not know about all the different types of Loves and was really interested by it. I knew about agape and storge love, but I did not know about mania, eros, ludus, and pragma love. It was really interesting to learn the different loves and understand why some people act the way they act. Now that I know the different types of loves, I try to identify them out of others, based off of their relationships and how they interact with other people. This assignment helped me to identify my own relationship. It showed me that my relationship is based majority off storge love and that we have a strong friendship in our relationship. I chose this picture because this is a beautiful representation of my relationship with my boyfriend. I also think that having a great friendship as the base in a relationship makes it last for a long time.
Assignment Takeaway 2: I learned perceived self- concept and self- presentation correlates to how a person is. Self- concept is who you think you are and how you think others see you. Self-presentation is when people act a certain way based off what they think others see them as. (Baron & Branscombe, 2016, p. 68). I learned that this could be a positive thing, but also a negative one as well. For example, if I think that people see me as a hard-working student then I will push to make sure that my grades are good, my time management on schoolwork is good, and my things are turned in on time. This positive aspect that people make of me can push me to be great in life. If people see me as a lazy person, that might cause me to not have a “drive” to get my homework turned in, which could cause my grades to drop. I decided to apply it to myself. I will start doing a self- examination of myself every three months. I will write down good traits that I think I have and traits that I think I might need to work on. During the next three months, I will work on those traits that need to be fixed. Once the three months is up, I would compare my traits to see if I improved or not. It was relevant to me because it allowed me to do a self- examination of myself. It allowed me to examine good character traits of myself and bad character traits that I might need to fix. A lot of times, we don’t do a self- examination of ourselves and this allowed me to see that I need to do this more often.
Assignment Takeaway 1: I learned that a lot of people use the different types of heuristics in their daily lives. I did not realize how much I use them in my life. I was able to gain a better understanding to each type of heuristic. I’ve learned each heuristic before, but I was still confused on some such as availability and representative heuristic. I know have a better understanding and can apply them to my daily life. My insight has caused me to be able to explain heuristics to other people as well. My sister had asked a question about representative heuristic and how we use heuristics in our everyday life. Based off the things that I learned, I was able to explain to her what representative heuristic was and how we use it in our everyday lives by showing her examples from her life. After we talked, she said she had a better understanding about it and wanted to learn more about it. I’ve learned based off availability heuristic is that you need to always know things for yourself. You need to research things and find out for yourself because some things that people might say are not true or are exaggerated.
