I find
myself understanding so many terms that we have learned and finding examples in
my outside life to correlate better to them and to understand them better.

I think that I have achieved learning the
factors for liking people and what leads to close relationships. I have learned
that the factors to liking others depends on your traits as an individual. Most
people like people who are like them or have characteristics like them. This
makes the person comfortable and this leads to close relationships.

I feel like I understand prejudice and
discrimination a lot better now after learning in depth about it. I have
learned that prejudice and discrimination happen to people of different color
almost as much as it does between men and women. Society does not talk about
discrimination between men and women as much as they talk about different
races. This is something that I’m focused on more.

I also liked learning about why people have
different attitudes. This also taught me how to not judge so quickly if
someone’s attitude does not match with mine. It has actually taught me to dig
deeper and to understand why people’ s attitudes are the way they are.

The objective of understanding people better is
correlated with understanding people’s attitudes. A person’s attitude is a part
of them and that means understanding where they are coming from and why. We
have to learn how to see other perspectives instead of judging so quick because
it does not match with ours.

I have seen and understood the different methods
that psychologist takes to make a hypothesis on a person based on the great
examples in the book. I love how the book gives an example on almost each term
and how each example is mostly an experiment. It allowed me to see how social
psychologist think and how they understand others.

My attitude has stayed they same throughout the course. I came into the course expecting to learn how to interact with each other and learn the different concepts that we use and go through every day. I feel like this course has helped me go beyond learning what I thought I would, and I enjoyed it. If I took the class again, I would take it in-class instead of online. It was a great class online, but I think it would be so much better in person. This class has helped me depend on myself a lot more and how to organize my assignments a lot better. Most teachers only assign notes and a test for their classes, compared to this one. This class has taught me how to organize myself so that I am still on course with this class and how to organize my other classes so I would not feel overwhelmed. One skill that I have gained during this course to be more interactive with people. I am a very quiet person. I don’t talk much, especially at school. I am a go- to- class and then go home type of person. This has taught me that I need to go be more interactive so that I can connect the things that I have learned to my everyday life and the life of others around me.

Aircart, M. Assignment 4 takeaway summaries Assignment 4, which discusses the types of love whether its friendship love (Philios), family love (Storge ), or romantic love (Eros). Blog 3 discusses the traits of how my boyfriend, and I are compatible. It also shows the different people that have either family love (Storge) or romantic love (Eros) in my life. Assignment takeaway 2 and blog 2 applies to each other because they correlate to each other when it comes down to self- presentation and self-concept. My self-concept for blog 2 is that I am a hard worker and that I get my things done on time. The self- presentation is that people see me as a person who is responsible because I make sure things are done on time and that I am always on time. Blog 7 was an eye opener for me. I really enjoyed it because it made me realize that I need to be aware of my emotional intelligence in life. During this time of life for me, a lot of things are changing. I am working more, while still in school, and doing other activities in church. This gets a little overwhelming at times but knowing how to manage my emotions helps tremendously. I used to stress a lot when things did not go how I thought it would go or when things did not work out. I now try to see the positive side of things and try to work to get to the goal instead of giving up and stressing out. The one thing that I learned in this class that I also learned in another class was self- efficacy. I learned self-efficacy in my Health Psychology class last semester. I really enjoyed that class. That was my first-time hearing of self- efficacy. Knowing what self-efficacy meant helped me understand and do my ep blog 2.

VanNatta, B. Back in the old days, mating was used to help expand the family. It is still used for this purpose now, but it is also used to show affection and to give pleasure. I would agree that sexual conflict results because of different genes in men and women. Women care more for affection and loving, while men care for sexual feelings and drives. This could cause sexual conflict because a man might feel for sexual desire, but a woman may not, which could cause disagreement. I think that men might upset women by urging for sexual desire, even when the women do not want it. This might make the women feel like the man is only focused on her physical needs and not her emotional needs. A man might get upset with a woman when he feels that his sexual needs are not being met. If the woman is not paying much attention to the man, he might feel inadequate or feel insecure about himself because he thinks that the woman thinks that something is wrong with him. This might cause a man to decide to step out of the relationship to satisfy those needs. This scenario can also happen with women as well.

I chose this picture because this represents actions of a man that could make a woman angry. People must be able to control and manage their emotion in order to achieve the set goal they have for themselves and others. Emotional intelligence to me is being able to identify what emotions you have, managing those emotions, and using those emotions towards your set goal or achievement. One example of me using emotional intelligence is me working with the kids from my church. I am one of the leaders for the Youth and Young Adult Praise team. The kids love to participate in it, but sometimes have conflicting schedules with school or other extra curriculum activities. They will come to majority of the rehearsals but realize a few days before the performance that they can’t make it. This becomes a problem because we base everything on how many kids we have participate, so it causes us to have to figure out how to adjust. I am the type of person that likes to do things in advance, so everything is good and “set in stone” so we won’t have to do things last minute. When we do have to do things last minute, I do get a little overwhelmed because it’s not the original plan that was made. I could improve this by having a plan B or by just managing my emotions better to be able to deal with the problem.

Ep Blog 6: I agree with this Ted Talk. This was an eye opener for me. I believe that women are stereotyped and are brought down. We are stereotyped in many things other than ads, but ads are a big portion of it. Certain ads bring women down such as make-up, clothing, weight, and beauty cleanser ads. These ads make women believe they are too ugly, too fat, or too skinny. It makes women feel like they must look a certain way in order to make it to society. It also influences our young girls too. They see these ads on tv and feel like they must strive to look like that when they are older. They think that if they do not look like that then no one will ever care for them or love them. This causes women and young girls to sexualize themselves in society. These five pictures below are examples of how women are sexualized in ads.

[Dolce & Gabbana ads]. A lot of the time, I rely on power points to learn the information and to study. I also read the textbook, but not as much. I learned that for this class, I think it will be better for me to rely less on the power points and make more notes of my own. I also realized that I like reading the textbook. In most classes, the textbook is really no help and has a lot of unnecessary information on it. This textbook explains the concept that we are learning, but then gives example that I can relate to that helps me understand the content better. The one thing that tremendously helped was the study guide. I like to spread my time out through out the week when I get the study guide to find the answers and to study the things, I am unfamiliar with. The study guide helped me see what I needed to study more and what things I knew. I believe that this will help because it has showed me what I need to do in order to prepare for the next test and future test as well.

This was my study guide for chapter 1

This was my study guide for chapter 2

Ep Blog 3: I believe that the article is very interesting and true. My self confidence is really high. I always stay on top of my assignments for each of my classes. I schedule time for each class so I won’t forget to do work for the class. I think that my confidence levels could increase if I stop stressing as much. I try to stay on top of everything because I am a full time student, I work, and I am in leadership with the youth at my church. It is a lot of work trying to balance everything out, so I stress sometimes. My results for the General Self- Efficacy Scale was 30. I scored moderately true for all of my questions except one, which was I remain calm when difficulties because I can rely on my coping abilities. I chose this picture to show myself the progress I have had over the past few years. I used to stress a lot about school all the time. So, to see that I have made progress over the past few years makes me feel very accomplished.

Ep Blog 1:The first course objective is to be able to make connections, or integrate learning, between courses and to outside experiences. This course objective will help me in the future because it will allow me to understand experiences that happen in my life. I will be able to connect different topics discussed in class and apply them to my life and the life of others. The second course objective is to discuss the factors that influence our liking for other individuals and that lead to the formation of close relationships. This course objective will help me in the future because it will help me understand why some friendships and relationships that I have encountered in life have become so strong. I’ve met people before, and I felt like I just “clicked” with them and knew that our friendship would last for a long time without even really knowing the person. I never knew why, but I always just had a feeling, so this will help me have a better understanding. The third objective is to discuss the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination. This course objective will help me learn the time period of when prejudice and discrimination started and why. It will allow me to learn how people feel when they are discriminated. The fourth course objective is to explain how attitudes are formed and changed, and how they are related to behavior. This course objective will help me understand why people have the attitudes that they have. The formation of attitudes stem from many factors. Some attitudes are based off from what people were taught growing up or experiences that they have had throughout their life. People’s attitude can change in a positive way or a negative way. I kind of understand how they are related to behavior, but this course will give me better reasoning as to how they are related. The fifth course objective is to discuss the processes through which people perceive and attempt to understand others. This course objective will help me understand why people are the way that they are. A lot of times, we don’t understand why people act the way that they act and do the things that they do. If we could understand each other, then we might have a different perspective or outlook towards the person. The sixth course objective is to outline the procedures social psychologists use to test hypotheses about the behavior of individuals and of groups. This course objective will help me learn the procedures that social psychologist use to identify the terms and information that they use and know today. My expectations for the course are
that I will learn how to understand others better and to understand myself
better. I want to learn the concepts and terms that we do in our everyday lives
so I will be able to explain those to others. I want to be able to help change
the mindsets of people who haven’t taken social psychology. I want to help
people have a broader perspective about life instead of a narrow perspective. I intend to implement strategies
such as writing my notes every week to help me understand. I love to read my
textbooks because it helps me understand the concepts given. I love the
jeopardy reviews for each chapter because it allows me to see what I really
know and what I need to work on. I intend to do all of my items to archive, my
assignments, and my ePortfolio assignments as well.

Gilmartin, B.
