I’m a soon-to-be junior in ODU with a major in Health and Physical Education. Out of all the languages to take for my general education, I chose Spanish for several reasons. I think as a teacher, this will help me communicate with students who are ESL and give them someone they can talk to, as well as increase participation, engagement, and enjoyment. My boyfriend and my oldest friend are both Spanish-speakers, so I wanted to be able to communicate with them and their family in a way that may either be easier for them or more enjoyable. Furthermore, in any career opportunity I want to show that I can communicate with Spanish-speakers and show that my employer cares about making sure they’re taken care of.
