Learning Style: Self-Assessment (Week 6)
- During class I use the pencil to paper, I like to hear what the professor is saying and write down any key points he or she state during lectures. When in lectures I like to put my attention on the professors because they go more in depth in the lectures so if I’m writing everything, they are saying I can miss something important because I so concentrated on writing word for word what the professors say.
- I study 3-5 hours a day, For the first 2 hours of studying, I turn off ALL of my electronics and just use what I have written down in my notebooks and do a recall of what I can remember. I turn off my electronics because this allows me to jog my memory and it allows me to see where I stand. Once those 2 hours of recall are done, I then turn on my computer and go through the Notes PowerPoints that are online and I began to write down anything that I missed during my recall. I also write down those subjects that I missed in my recall so I know those are the subjects I need most help on. While reading off the PowerPoints I also make flash cards. After every hour I take a 15-20 min break.
2b. One of the classes I’m doing well is sociology. The studying methods I use for this class is the recall then note check method. I use this method because while in class we don’t use our computers so we write one notes in our notebooks and once on our free time we can check the notes he posted on blackboard to write down anything we miss. When I do recall and note check I can see where I stand with what I can remember and what I can’t. This helps me see where I need help and where I need to pay more attention In.
- Chemistry has been a little bit challenging due to all the mathematical problem set and the terms that I have to remember. I plan to use Flashcard, take practice quizzes also start going to tutoring and office hours whenever I need the extra help. I also plan to study for Chemistry class 3 days of the week each of 3 hours sitting with 10 min breaks in between. While studying I will be any terms and mathematical problems, I need help in. I feel like sometimes when I’m studying, I get a little stressed out when I don’t get something and I feel like sometimes that’s what gets in the way of my learning.
- One new technique I can use in class to help me better understand the material is better developing listening skills. Before class I can pre-read about the past topics and the new topics that we will be going through during class. During the lecture I will be looking for the main idea of the lecture and I will make connections to past topics and new topics to see how everything connects. After the lecture I will revise everything that I learned in class and write a short summary.
- Outside of class a new technique I can use is evaluating my study locations, by using this I can see if where I study affects my studying and limits what I intake while studying. I can also try different types of learning tactics to see which better suits me and better help me understand.
