Pre-Semester Reflection

  1. Transition to college
    1. What are you most excited about for your first semester of college? Getting a head start on my career path and making new friends.
  • What do you expect to be your biggest challenge this semester? (Think about living on your own, time management, procrastination, making friends etc…)   Probably the biggest challenge would have to be time management.
  • What other time commitments will you have during your first semester (job, sports, student organization etc…) A job as a front desk receptionist at Owens House
    • About how many hours will you spend each week with these commitments? I still haven’t gotten my schedule yet.
    • How do you plan to balance all of these commitments? By figuring out my time availabilities and keeping an organized planner to keep track of all the things that I need to do or have already finished.
    • In high school, what clubs, organizations, or activities did you participate in, if any? Soccer
    • Is there a club or organization you plan to join this semester and what do you expect to gain from this experience?  If not, why not? I will not be joining a club this semester for the reason being that I don’t want to take on more then I can put down. I feel like I already have enough things on my plate for now.

  1. Major/Career
    1. What is your intended major and why did you choose this major? Nursing. I chose nursing because I love to help people in need, or in general. I am a very compassionate person, and it just feels right that nursing is what I want to do.
    1. What skills or abilities do you possess that make this major/career a good choice for you? I am trilingual, Compassion, Empathy, Caring, and a strong sense of willingness to learn new things.
    1. What experience, if any, do you have that relates to your chosen major/career? N/A
    1. What are your career goals (in 5 years/in 10 years)? Once received Bachelor of Science Nursing then carry on to my MSN then to a Doctorate as a Neurologist Nurse Practitioner.
  2. Study habits
    1. What do you expect to be the biggest difference between high school and college?  More studying!
    1. Is there a difference between “studying” and “homework”?  Explain your answer. Yes. While studying you go into depth with what you read, you annotate, ask your self-questions, while homework is a way of studying it is also just a fast study not to in-depth.
  3.   List each class, and tell us how much time you expect to study per week for each class.

***Important note!!! If you are in an online class you will need to spend time “going to class” and studying. These are two different things!***

 CHEM 105N – 2 Hours               SOC 201S – 2 Hours        CGE 140 and 142- 1 Hour

  CHEM 106N – 2 Hours               HLTH 101 – 1 Hour

Where do you plan to study?  By splitting the courses into different days of the week and giving my self enough time to have a mental cool off moment.

What potential distractions can you anticipate?  My phone

How do you plan to avoid these distractions? By keeping it away while I’m studying.

What time of day is your best time to study, and why? Midday, because I feel more energized around that time.

What specific study techniques do you think work best for you? Taking notes, annotating, highlighting key components, and writing down questions I may have.
