I want to start off by saying this has probably been the most immersive TalkAbroad I have done yet. Karima would ask me questions in a typical French tone, aka very fast. Thankfully, she was extremely patient and if I did not understand she would repeat the question for me and even add little hand gestures. As a visual learner I REALLY appreciated that. There were a few internet problems, I know it was storming bad on my end but for almost half the conversation I was unable to see Karima and only saw a black screen. There was also a bad lag so there was an awkward pause before her, or I said anything.

I do feel like these TalkAbroads are getting easier for me though. I can understand more and more phrases and words which helps me converse better. I still do get a little nervous which makes me forget all my verbs. I felt very confident when answering my passé compose questions, but the future proche questions had me a little confused. I’ve been studying past tense so much recently I forgot all of future tense! I think I answered somewhat correctly though.

There were moments where I answered questions fairly fluently and Karima would say that it was good and that she understood me and then would give me a thumbs up. That made me feel good; that I was able to piece together a comprehensible sentence. Although, on the other hand, there were a few times I didn’t know the word for something or I’m pretty sure I just said gibberish in French and Karima was just be like “okay, next question.” She was really great, I enjoyed talking to her. Internet connection aside, I really enjoyed this conversation. I’m starting to be able to see my own growth in conversing in French.
