Créer une entreprise

This is where you will insert a description of the entrepreneurial project you would like to embark on: 1) conception of company or service 2) how does it differ from other similar ones on the market today, what legal status will it have, how will you implement it, and finally the publicity campaign you will choose to publicize it.

For my final project would like to create a bookstore in Hampton Roads that focuses on selling books in French and English as a way to help grow and cultivate the French culture in our area. Currently there is not a place for francophones or those who want to start learning of the culture in our area. The Alliance Francaise has a branch in the City of Norfolk but is not as active as other branches, such as Alliance Francaise Washington D.C. A goal of this company would be to partner up with the French bookstore Albertine in New York City to bring French literature to the area. In addition it would be ideal to have a small in-house restaurant that focuses on French food and drinks, while also partnering up with other local businesses who specialize in French food. The bookstore will offer monthly book clubs and author events (through zoom or in person) with French or Quebecois authors to discuss their work, and French ideas.

Albertine partners with select bookstores across the country to create “French Corners,” curated selections of French and Francophone titles. With titles hand-picked by Albertine staff and the French Embassy Book Department, the “French Corners” selections encompass a wide variety of fiction, ranging from classic authors like Honoré de Balzac and Simone de Beauvoir to modern writers such as novelist Michel Houellebecq and playwright Yasmina Reza

The closest bookstore with a “french corner” near us is Politics & Prose in Washington D.C., since we are a military town and there is a NATO headquarters in the area as well I think it would benefit the diverse community we already have and encourage those wo already know the language and culture to gather together to further their education and knowledge. I think the specialized bookstore in an area that has a diverse community who supports local businesses will have great success.
