In my Talk Abroad experience, my partner’s name was Clémence Gougbenou and she is from the country Benin, located next to Nigeria in the continent of Africa. Talk Abroad had recommended her for newcomers and I can highly agree with this statement, because she was great at helping me understand her questions by using gestures, props, or examples so that I can build up a response. At first, I was nervous beginning our conversation, I had thought of our discussion was going to be a simple Question and answer, where she asks a certain question in French, and I responded with an answer I practice when said question is being asked. Throughout our discussion, I did gain a little bit of confidence around the middle of our discussion because I could understand the French terms she was saying when she was asking a question. There were something I did not expect when our discussion begins, like asking the question in a different way or going into more depth upon a question, for example Madame Gougbenou wanted to know the name of my brothers but it took me a while to understand the question she was asking until she gave me an example. In my personal opinion, I feel that I have multiple weakness from my Talk Abroad discussion, some of them would have to be listening and interoperating French questions, pronouncing my response, and listening to my partner’s response. Listing out my weaknesses isn’t a bad thing; it helps me with my next Talk Abroad discussion by letting me know what to improve upon, I would mostly work on my knowledge of French vocabulary and pronunciation. Though I list out my weaknesses, I do have some strengths in our discussion like on how fluent my responses where and continue speaking French instead of English during the assignment. In my plan of action for my next conversation I will scheduling an appointment for tutoring, practicing the questions, and attending French chat hour, to improve my weaknesses. After my Talk Abroad conversation, I would say the conversation was not perfect no bad, but it was a great experience with have a conversation with someone in French.
