These are things I did not think about in English, so it was interesting to learn the structure of tenses such as past, past participle, imperative, -ing, future tense, and conditional. It allowed me to learn beyond just the vocabulary and work towards structuring sentences in different ways.

Being exposed to the many types of activities and exercises that we had this semester truly opened my eyes, intellectually and culturally. I rather enjoyed the experiences that ImmerseMe offered because it allowed for flexibility and curated experiences that feel close to you. I think the virtual reality aspect is really helpful and interesting, allowing you to experience an authentic French interaction. I also loved all the modes available; it allowed users to have variety and find which mode works best for their comprehension.

Being able to withhold two conversations with French speakers from other countries. I even spoke to someone from France, which I was very hesitant to do in the beginning of the semester. I would consider that one of my biggest accomplishments in French 102.

I was very nervous to speak with native French speakers because I felt that I did not have the tools and knowledge to hold a good conversation. With the many effective CMU lessons and ImmerseMe activities, I gained confidence in speaking, writing, and structuring responses and questions in French.

I chose to study French because I have felt a connection to the language since my mom chose “Gisele” as her name in French class. Though this may be a miniscule connection, it prompted me to take French in middle school, and continue into college.
