Instructions

Exploring Culture

Throughout this course I’ve learned and explored more about cultures. I believe that discussion board assignments allowed me to gain new perspective on opinions and cultures. Being able to hear stories and opinions from my fellow classmates allowed me to grow my understandings.

The Discussion Board questions allow me to learn more about cultures. I was able to learn and explore more about Spanish culture from watching videos. These videos allowed me to hear directly from people who belong to Spanish Culture. In one of our DB I was able to learn about the typical Spanish University. After watching the video I was able to learn about the differences between my reality and the reality of another college student who would live in Spain. One challenge I was faced with was how unknowledgeable I was on different cultures. I had always assumed that America had such beautiful sand advanced schooling. However after watching that video I was able to virtually experience how beautiful and unique a Spanish University was.

Exploring

Engaging in Communities

In English, give a brief description of the value of, and importance of, engaging in your immediate community and the global community. I highly value community. I think community is a very important thing. The aspect of having a community adds to life. Having a community helps to build you up.

Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc. Having a community while taking Spanish has been very helpful. Being to connect with classmates has been an essential part of learning Spanish. I’ve learned about my classmates from what they enjoy to how they feel about certain things. This closeness adds to my experience taking this course. The cause was able to bond over similarities. Being able to learn Spanish has definitely opened new doors in my community. In my friend group, we practice together. We speak and text in Spanish with my friends who are also learning Spanish with me as well.

Interpersonal Communication

In class I participated in completing flipgrid activities. Flip grid activities allowed me to have work on my Spanish speaking while being able to communicate intepersonally with my classmates. While completing these flip grid assignments I answered prompts and then would respond to my classmates oral videos.

My favorite form of interpersonal speaking came from the oral exams with my Professors. During these exams I was able to showcase my knowledge while getting feedback and continuing to improve. With each assignment I’ve grown a lot. I now feel comfortable enough to speak Spanish out loud. These oral exams allowed me to practice, gain confidence in my speaking abilities and improve my speaking abilities as well. On my my last oral exam I received a high B. At the end of my exam I was met with praise for my professor on how I did very well. I was able to overcome my challenge with unplanned public speaking.

Presentational Speaking

Throughout this semester we were given oral prompts for our flip grid assignments. We were required to formulate our own answers and respond. I worked on my presentational speaking with my flip grid assignments. I was able to present my opinion in Spanish giving an explanation of a topic.

In this short video, I discuss my favorite people. Overall flip grid presentations challenged me because I often felt uncomfortable speaking in a presentation manner out loud. On top of feeling nervous about presenting, I was also afraid of presenting in Spanish. After a time I was able to overcome my uncomfortably with presenting in Spanish. In the end I excelled at articulating and using the vocabulary I learned. Next time what I would do differently is focus on speaking more and showcasing my skills.

Presentational Writing

To work on my presentational writing I did composition writing in Spanish. Along with reading books in Spanish I would write composition summaries of what I read in Spanish.

With each chapter from the book I read I wrote a composition in Spanish in my notebook. I would write a summary and my opinion of the book all in Spanish. This allowed me to work on my key vocabulary and formatting of sentences. The difficult part of this was creating sentences with a limited vocabulary. Over time my vocabulary grew. I excelled at sussing creative words and creating creative sentences. Next time I could work more on expanding my use of verbs and conjugating more advanced.

Interpretive Listening

This semester I’ve worked on my interpretive listening in several different ways. I had several listening assignments. These assignments required me to listen, interpret and respond.

This semester I used flipgrid, quizzes, and lingro learning assignments to work on my interpret-listening skills. These assignments consisted of me listening to the audio and then writing or responding back in Spanish. The challenging part of these assignments was the interpreting part. In the beginning, I was often lost and had to replay the audio multiple times. I overcame this difficulty with practice. I practiced by listening to multiple different kinds of audio with Spanish speaking. I watched shows in Spanish, listen to music, and had my friends who know Spanish speak to me in Spanglish. My overall outtake from this assignment is that ignorer to continue to develop my Spanish speaking abilities I need to work on listening, speaking, and writing in order to improve. If I just focus on one or two you wont grow as much as I want.

Interpretive Reading

. One way ive been working on my interpretive reading is by reading beginner books in Spanish During my free time. My favorite book that I’ve read is “Pobre Anna” by Blaine Ray.

I’ve taken the initiative to read Spanish books in my free time. This activity was a fun and engaging way for me to learn more hands-on. Some challenging aspect of this was finding books that I was advanced enough to understand and still be able to learn. Another big issue I came across was just reading in general. I was used to reading in English and the format of reading in Spanish came difficult. I overcame this issue with lots of practice and reading. The thing I found most interesting was how in English and Spanish the word placement is flip-flopped. For example in Spanish, you say sándwich de queso but in English you say Cheese sandwich. With each reading assignment or book I’ve read, I have grown my vocabulary and worked on my reading comprehension. My takeaway that I’m able to see from overtime is that I’ve improved a lot and reading Spanish
