One thing that helped me form connections between this class and my other courses was the ability to get an overview of the entire cell system and understand how all of it’s parts work together to make certain things happen. In my other classes, a general overview or explanation of how whatever we are learning is interconnected with the rest of the cellular processes is usually excluded, and we are left to wonder about on what basal level are these things controlled. It was interesting to learn about the huge variety of complex structures that exist at the cellular level and how they are often at a similar level of complexity as things on a larger scale, like what I studied in my Zoology course this semester. This course was also important to me as a Marine Biology student because all marine life is dependent on primary production of microorganisms for the circulation of nutrients and energy.
