As I stated in my first blog, Henry Ford once said that anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young (Ford, n.d). Below is an image of a brain holding a fork and a spoon with a plate in front of it.

The reason I chose this picture as my representative visual image is because This entire semester we have been constantly feeding our mind with new information every week, and by doing so we are keeping our minds young. I personally feel that I have achieved everything throughout this entire course and what I mean by that is I have gain more knowledge every week by following the course objectives such as being able to Outline the procedures social psychologists use to test hypotheses about the behavior of individuals and of groups, Discuss the processes through which people perceive and attempt to understand others, Explain how attitudes are formed and changed, and how they are related to behavior, Discuss the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination, Discuss the factors that influence our liking for other individuals and that lead to the formation of close relationships, and To be able to make connections, or integrate learning, between courses and to outside experiences (Muth, n.d).  As I continued to soak up more knowledge throughout the week my attitude towards social psychology has shown me that we all must have an open mind and be willing to learn new information. If I was to take this course over, One thing that I would have done differently was not to wait until the last minute to do some of my assignments. In which this is one of the many ways that I have grown academically because it has shown me some of my strengths and some of my weaknesses. That allowed me a push to do some of my course work in the beginning of the week instead of towards the end. Lastly, one of the skills that I will be utilizing my entire career is the ability to use availability and representative heuristic.

Henry Ford once said that Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. Throughout this entire semester we all have kept feeding our mind new information every week, which is keeping our mind young because we are continuing to learn new things constantly. I would have to say that the top 3 things that I have learned so far this semester is First being the different types of heuristic, secondly Self-regulation and lastly my assignment 3 takeaway were I discussed the difference between, Prejudice, Discrimination, and Stereotyping.

With this in mind, I was able to connect the following two terms, Representativeness heuristic, that can be defined as coming up with a conclusion by connecting a current circumstance to one that represents a mental prototype, but in order to draw this conclusion, you have to compare the individual to a prototype (Branscombe & Nyla, 2016). While discrimination is defined as Differential (usually negative) behaviors directed toward members of different social groups (Branscombe & Nyla, 2016). If one were to actually sit back and think about it, some people are actually using representativeness heuristic to discriminate towards people, because they are drawing their own conclusion or mental prototype based on how an individual look. In addition, with that being said, in my Introduction to sociology class we just started to discuss and learn about Prejudice, Discrimination, and Stereotyping. In which, I have learned that till this day people are still constantly stereotyping and discriminating against other people. Lastly, the reason why I selected the word press image as my representative visual image was because of all the information that I have learned this semester, I talked about in my WordPress portfolio, so this made it easier for me to narrow down my three topics.

Maya Angelou once said “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope (Kremer, 2020).” Every relationship has its ups and down, the good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes in a relationship the women would get upset with the man, and the man would get upset with the women. It has been stated that four reasons why women get upset with men is because they feel like they are being ignored, underappreciated, and being taken advantage of and being used. (Spano, 2015). In addition, I have personally asked a couple people that I worked with, what were a few reasons why your significant other would upset you.  One individual states that it would upset them that they would come home to a dirty house every day and have to clean up although their significant other has been home all day watching tv. Another individual stated that they were in a relationship and came to find out they were being used for their money, and lastly another individual stated that they were not being loved equally. With that being said, this is one of the reasons why I Chose the image of an individual’s being controlled by a puppet, because people do not like being used, but some people are being used without them knowing.

Lastly, after I have finished reading the article I was honestly really surprised by the article. Reason being is because it was stated that Seventy-one percent of men admit to deceiving women in this way, whereas only 39% of women report doing so (Buss, 2016). In contrast, women are five times more likely than men to send signals of sexual interest in the hopes of securing nonsexual resources (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, & Angleitner, 2005). I personally feel that in this society we do have some honest people in this world, but we also have both men and women who use each other for their own alternative motives.

It is stated that Self-regulation can be defined in various ways (Emotional Intelligence, n.d). In the most basic sense, it involves controlling one’s behavior, emotions, and thoughts in the pursuit of long-term goals. More specifically, emotional self-regulation refers to the ability to manage disruptive emotions and impulses. In addition, Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to Recognize and manage one’s own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. Emotional intelligence is generally said to include a few skills: namely emotional awareness, or the ability to identify and name one’s own emotions; the ability to harness those emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving; and the ability to manage emotions, which includes both regulating one’s own emotions when necessary and helping others to do the same (Cuncic,2020). With that being said, I personally feel that emotional intelligence means that an individual will be able to pinpoint and understand their own emotions which could affect their everyday life. In addition to being able to help and pinpoint others’ emotions as well. Some examples of how I display emotional intelligence is by me being able to control my own thoughts and emotion when someone is giving me positive feedback. In additions It has been stated that people can improve their emotional intelligence by utilizing an assertive style of communicating, responding instead of reacting to conflict and being able to be an active listener (Golhar, 2018) Lastly attached is my EQ test from the global research museum.

It has been stated that people are exposed to sexualized images of men and women on a daily basis. This sexualization in mass media is manifested through men and women often depicted in various states of undress and in sexually connoted postures (Philippe & Robin, 2019). Before these ads, I Have you noticed, prior to this presentation, how ads distort, stereotype, and dehumanize women and manipulate people to buy their products. I honestly feel that every ad and tv commercial are used to sway each and every one differently. I personally believe Manufactures created things, and items for certain people either man, women or children. Even sometimes certain races, depending on the product at hand. In addition to these ads, I have noticed that some of the ads have dehumanized women, show men being more feminine and also inappropriate toys for children. I have noticed that some ads Below are five different pictures from the ted talk video showing women being dehumanized, showing men being more feminine and also in appropriate toys for children.

Peter senge once said that, sharing knowledge is not about giving people something, or getting something from them. That is only valid for information sharing. Sharing knowledge occurs when people are genuinely interested in helping one another develop new capacities for action; it is about creating learning processes (Gurteen, 2020).  With that being said, one of the ways I utilize my studying time throughout the day is by sharing the information that I have learned with my friends, family and coworkers. For instance, the first week that I learned about the different heuristic, I was telling everyone the definitions I have learned, and giving them all examples. In which at first, they thought I was making this information up, until they looked it up their self’s.

In addition, leading up to the test I watched all of the jeopardy chapter review videos which was also a refresher that I thought prepared me for the test. One thing that I can say that help me for my next test is to make sure I study a little more and that I know all of the definitions, and also examples so that I would have a better understanding of each term. The reason that I decided on the visual image shown below, because I think that it was an amazing review that helped and gave me a better understanding of the course material

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that music is the universal language of mankind (Gottlieb, 2019). It is stated that every human culture has music, just as each has language. So, it’s true that music is a universal feature of the human experience. Exactly these same features—pitch, rhythm, and tempo—are used to convey emotion in speech, in a way that appears to be universal across languages (Ludden, 2015). We can all agree that music has a way to touch each and every one of us differently depending on their song of choice at the time. Everyone can agree that music has a way to connect one another, from friends, family, memories and your significant other.

When me and my friend go to the gym, we all are listening to music because it gives us that extra pump, to continue on when we all are feeling tired or when we are out running and start to get tired. Each and every one of us agree that we have a song that we play when we are running our last mile, in which it helps us pick up the pace. For instance, the two songs I have played to complete my last mile are Dancing queen by ABBA and Kiss the sky by Nino moschella and shawn Lee. It has been stated that it can help improve the quality of your workout by increasing your stamina and putting you in a better mood. In particular, music that is motivational or synchronized with your exercise is shown to have physical and psychological effects (Ludden, 2015). As I stated before, music does not only connect me and my friends, but it also connects me and my lady.

On the weekends when me and my lady are hanging out and just having fun there are the three specific songs that we always listen and dance to, which is lo quireo a morir by Gisselle, Michael Jackson do you remember the time and lastly for the love of you by the Isley brothers. Whenever I hear any of these three songs, I automatically think of us dancing and drawing on the weekends no matter what. We both have agreed that when we are dancing on the weekend it puts us in an amazing mood just to keep on dancing all throughout the night until our heart is content, and we are tired. As stated earlier when I hear specific songs play it brings back memories, and sometimes when me and my lady are dancing my reggae playlist starts to play while we are dancing and drawing out, it always reminds me of my parents because that something they always played while we were all in the car together. We all listen to music and it has a way to touch each and every one of us differently depending on their song of choice at the time in addition music can also bring back memories some good and some bad, so let just embrace and let the music flow with us and through us, and that is exactly why I chose the music symbol picture because you can see the music Syllables  just flowing.

It is stated that the General Self-Efficacy Scale is a 10-item psychometric scale that is designed to assess optimistic self-beliefs to cope with a variety of difficult demands in life (General Self-Efficacy Scale, n.d). After calculating my score, it is stated that I have a high self-efficiency score. I personally believe that I am a hard-working student who never gives up no matter how many challenges are thrown my way. I love the fact that every week in class our teacher challenges us and our teachers keep feeding our minds with new information. One thing I can say that I learned through this journey in life is that it is better to face our fears straight forward instead of running away. Don’t be afraid to ask question, reach out if you have question because there is no such thing as a dumb question, the only dumb question is the one you wish you would have asked. So, raise your, send your teacher an email if you have a question and show confidence when you ask that question.

With that being said, I must say that I am a very confident individual, but not to confident or naïve to the fact that we as human beings are constantly learning things every day in life and the day that we think we know everything and are not willing to learn even is the same day we have failed ourselves. So, there is always room to increase and improve your confidence level, because we as human beings are always learning, adapting, evolving and overcoming many challenges in our everyday life. In the event that there’s a task that is thrown my way I am accepting the task with open arms, and I will not give up until that task is completed.

Below is an image of me when I was in the Airforce as an HVAC technician. Me and my supervisor were called out to do a job at the bx because they did not have any A/c. I must say that was one of many challenging tasks I have ever done because my supervisor allowed me to do the entire job by myself until I completed it, which took me almost the entire day. One thing I can say is that I never gave up, and I Finished the job.

Henry Ford once said that anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young (Ford, n.d). The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. With that being as I Continue to educate myself with this endless amount of knowledge throughout school and life itself I will continue to feed my mind and keep it young and healthy so that I can pass it down to the next generation. Throughout this semester and course my expection is to gain more knowelege everyweek by following the course objectives such as being able to Outline the procedures social psychologists use to test hypotheses about the behavior of individuals and of groups, Discuss the processes through which people perceive and attempt to understand others, Explain how attitudes are formed and changed, and how they are related to behavior, Discuss the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination, Discuss the factors that influence our liking for other individuals and that lead to the formation of close relationships, and To be able to make connections, or integrate learning, between courses and to outside experiences (Muth, n.d). In order for me for me to learn the following listed above and be successful in this course, I plan on constantly making sure that I Print out the syllabus and place it on the fridge, so that I do not miss any of my course work that is do, make sure I find time to study the materials that have been given to me, and reach out to my professor if I have questions that need to be answered. For instance the picture below is an image of a definition that I learned in this weeks learning. In which that definition is social cognition, which concerns how we think about the social world, our attempts to understand complex issues, and why we sometimes are less than “optimally rational,” will be a major focus of this chapter (e.g., Fiske & Taylor, 2008; Higgins & Kruglanski, 1996). This image was selected because it shows a person thinking about three other individuales.

Affect, Behavior, and Cognition

After completing this course, I personally believe that these course objectives that I am looking to complete by the end of the course will be very useful to me in the future when I become a Guidance counselor. Reason being is because It will allow me to make connections, or integrate what I learned from the course and to outside experiences. Such as me knowing how to react to a student’s attitude in which the behavior and demeanor can change due to their behavior.
