Exploring Culture

What I have noticed in the Spanish culture that are so outgoing and hands on when meeting people because the give each other kisses on the checks when they first meet, or they might hung each other. During this course I have learned that they are proud of their culture hence why they take soccer so seriously.  

            I have learned this semester that the Hispanic people are very friendly and loving people with their very personal greetings. When comparing to American’s we are not so personal and touchy with people that we are meeting for the first time. At first I did not know how open Hispanics were with each other, but now after watching hoe they greet and talk to each other I can see that they are very open. Also, that Hispanics have very close and big families. They also love the sport soccer and to so much pride in it. They watch the games anywhere they can even in the streets! When comparing to Americans the only thing that is close to Hispanics and soccer is Americans and football.

Engaging in Communities

Taking part in a community by helping with making it better or by just attending community events can help give a individual character. This helps build leaderships skills and the importance of giving a helping hand to the area that helped growth of the individual. Another thing is that it will help with building relationships within the community that could last a lifetime. Peer pressure can also build personality which can be both negative or positive

Presentational Speaking

During this semester I had a interview with my professor Mrs.Sefcik, She had asked me many question in Spanish that I was able to respond to correctly and then she them asked me a certain question that I did not know how to answer well. So I was able to shift the conversation to a different topic.

            The presentation that I had completed was the interview with my professor. What challenged me the most was trying to understand the Spanish by listening instead of reading it. I was giving no choice but to improvise and listening for key words to help determine what was being said. Trying to stick to vocab that I know also tried shifting conversation by controlling the conversation.

Presentational Writing

            During the semester doing a Spanish email was much easier for me since I was writing out in Spanish instead of speaking it. For the assignment I had to write a letter to a dear friend talking about my family.

            Even though the Spanish email assignment was a lot easier for me, I still made a couple of mistakes. The common mistake was adding a -a or -o at the end of a word when describing someone. Another thing that I kept doing was saying ello when it should be el. This is because I get it mixed up with ella (singular) and ellas (plural) thinking it should be the same for el and ellos. Things that were easy for me was talking about my relationship of a family member and their relationship with other family members.  

Interpretive Listening

During this semester I a had numerous activities in where I needed to listen what was being said and type out the sentences being said.

            When doing this activity, it was really difficult to understand what the speaking was saying. One thing that made it difficult was that the speaking would speak rally fast and I would not be able to comprehend the words that the speaker was saying. Another thing that was difficult in listen to the speaker was that I did not know how to spell some of the words that the speaker was saying. A strength that I did have was listening to key words to help me figure out what the speaker is trying to say.

Interpretive Reading

            I have done many reading assignments during this semester in the homework. Like matching up a vocabulary word that we just learned into the appropriate sentence.

            The reading assignments were pretty easy when trying to figure out the appropriate vocabulary word. This is because I can understand Spanish a lot better when it is written out and I can read and pick apart certain words to figure out the sentence. A weakness that I do have when reading is that I try to read Spanish exactly like it is English. As in I try to translate it exactly in English format. Sometimes the sentences throw me off because I try to just translate it in English instead of just reading it and understanding it as is written in Spanish.
