  • Midterm Project: Why the Government shouldn’t regulate IoT Devices

Finishing this product proved to be more difficult than expected, but overall I feel it was successful. In order to complete the video as a group, we took the following steps.

  1. Establish lines of communication through email.
  2. Brainstorm potential arguments based on sources we find.
  3. Focus on the topics that seem the easiest to argue and make an outline based on them.
  4. Divide up the work evenly between group members and check up on the group periodically to make sure they’re doing their parts.
  5. Collect each section from each group member and combine them into the finished product.

While these steps definitely helped, there were some caveats. For one, my group wasn’t the best at communicating consistently or completing their parts by the deadlines I requested. I set these as I was the one responsible for editing the project, and I didn’t want to have to wait until the last minute to start editing our project and be rushed to finish. All but one of our group members got their parts in in time, with one member not submitting their work at all.

As a result of this, my thoughts on group work haven’t been affected, as I think it’s still a very efficient and effective way to complete large-scale projects, but I do understand that all members of the group need to actively participate. I feel that with a more cohesive group the final product may have been that much better.
