Gabrielle Brown – Service Learning Assignment

The organization I choose is the Riverside Regional Medical Center. The volunteering process provides you with rewarding experiences in the healthcare field and can open up many opportunities for you. As a volunteer they allow you to assist with the patients and interact with the staff at the hospital. This allows you to get a better understanding inside of the career and how it’s like to work with all kinds of individuals. Volunteers here help work with the public, assist visitors, and support the members of the health care team as well as gain loads of information. At Riverside, their purpose is to “provide healthcare experiences that are just remarkable. We do this for each and every person, regardless of their personal or economic circumstances. We offer our highest thinking, our kindest touch, and our strongest commitment to excellence.”They provide services such as Women and Infant Care, Heart and Vascular services, CancerCare, A Neurological & Spine Institute, Diagnostic & Surgery centers, and an Advanced StrokeNetwork. Riverside makes partnerships with organizations such as the Health Department to provide leadership, staffing, and funding for the people in the community. Hospitals are not just there tosupport the people who may be a little underthe weather. They are there to support acommunity as a whole. My number one goalthat I have set for my future self is to give apositive, and caring mindset when working withpeople and one thing that was mentioned inthere statement was they wanted to give their“Kindest touch” and I definitely want to be ableto give the same.My intended career choice is to become a laborand delivery nurse and at the Riverside Medical Center they provide a service for Women andInfant care. They stated that generations of women have trusted the riverside health care team tohelp them lead healthy lives, and grow their families while doing so. That is what I want to give tothe women and families of my community.I want to be able to give them the support they needwhen wanting to start a family. I would say technology and psychology could relate to thiscommunity partner because technology can help with making the health field easier and moreeffective, and psychology because you have to know how to deal with different behaviors. If I wasto choose, I would choose psychology as my parallel major because even though I wouldn’t be inthe healthcare field I would still be working with people, and be able to support them through times
