- Study habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class every week? For every class each week I will study for about 3 hours. After I have been in that class, but on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays I have more time so I will study even more.
- Do you need to put more time into studying, and for which class or classes? I would say that I need to put more time into studying for my chemistry classes. The chemistry lecture class takes up most of my time because you basically have to teach yourself.
- Where do you study? I always study in my room because of the quiet.
- Do you often find yourself distracted while studying? Yes, I find myself distracted sometimes while studying.
- What could you do to remove these distractions? To remove the distractions, I can turn my phone off because that’s the only thing that gets me distracted.
- What time of day do you study? Depends, If I have a morning class then I will study when it’s done and when I have classes later in the evening then I will wake up hours before and study.
- i. Do you feel focused and alert at this time? I feel that I can be better at staying focused, because even without my phone I tend to get distracted at the smallest things.
- Learning style
- What specific study techniques do you think work best for you? How do these vary from class to class? The best techniques that I have started to use was making my notes more appealing to be able to remember things, like using colors or pictures. Most of the classes my techniques are the same.
- What new study techniques have you tried this semester based on what you have learned about learning styles? A new technique that I was doing before like in middle school, but stopped was doing flashcards. It really helps with the vocabulary that I have to learn.
- Transition to college
- Has college been what you expected? Yes college has been what I expected, the workload is much more.
- In what way is your college experience different from what you expected? The only thing that I would say is different is the way we get to socialize with other students because of covid, and we can’t go out and do as much.
- What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?
- If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome? I don’t think I have had a challenge because I’m not that far away from home, so i still see my family a lot.
- OR If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?
- Connecting to campus
- Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation. A challenge I have encountered is a financial hold and to solve this problem I used The financial aid office and zoom meetings with the financial aid counselors.
- Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you? My friends help me alot because they always remind me that even though it can be stressful it also pays off in the end. They also send me messages that keep me motivated.
- Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved? I attended a meeting for the theta chi sorority, and I decided to get involved because I was in a miniature sorority when I was 14-18.
