{"id":92,"date":"2020-10-15T15:28:46","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T15:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.odu.edu\/fall2017-hlth101-template\/?page_id=92"},"modified":"2020-12-16T01:40:01","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T01:40:01","slug":"pre-semester-reflection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/gbrow005hlth101\/pre-semester-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-Semester Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Major\/Career<ol start=\"1\" type=\"a\"><li>What is your intended major and why did you choose this major? <strong>My intended major is<\/strong> <strong>Nursing, I choose this major because I love the idea of helping those in need, but being more specific I would like to be a labor and delivery nurse.<\/strong><\/li><li>What skills or abilities do you possess that make this major\/career a good choice for you?<strong> I would say that my work ethic is very strong, and if I really want something I can go for it and i\u2019ll achieve it.<\/strong><\/li><li>What experience, if any, do you have that relates to your chosen major\/career?<strong> I was in the health sciences program at my high school for all four years. from learning medical terminology to actually being hands on with some task that a nurse would have to do.<\/strong><\/li><li>In what type of setting would you prefer to work?<strong> The settings I like to work in, well, it depends.. it just depends on how I feel really, sometimes I like to do work in silence and sometimes I like to listen to music while I work.<\/strong><\/li><li>What are your career goals (in 5 years\/in 10 years)?<strong> My career goals in 5-10 years are<\/strong> <strong>to have completed what I need to become a nurse and be working my way to become a labor and delivery nurse.<\/strong><\/li><li>Complete the MyMajors quiz: <a href=\"https:\/\/odu.mymajors.com\/quiz\/\">https:\/\/odu.mymajors.com\/quiz\/<\/a>. Of the majors on your top 10 list, which 3 would you like to learn more about?<strong> elementary education, human services, sociology<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>&nbsp;which is crazy because this was my section option.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Transition to college<ol start=\"1\" type=\"a\"><li>What do you expect to be the biggest difference between high school and college? <strong>The major difference between high school and college for me would be the amount of workload that they give.<\/strong><\/li><li>What do you expect to be your biggest challenge this semester? <strong>The biggest challenge that I expect is&nbsp; the workload.. I don&#8217;t want it to overwhelm me.<\/strong><\/li><li><em>If you live on campus:<\/em> What do you expect to be your biggest challenge with moving away to college?&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>My biggest challenge while being away from college is just missing my friends and family.<\/strong><\/li><li>OR &nbsp;<em>If you commute to class:<\/em> What do you expect to be your biggest challenge with commuting to campus?<\/li><li>Do you have a job\/ or plan to get a job? If so, where? How many hours will you be working per week?<strong> I have a job at Walmart, they are very nice for working with me so i&#8217;ll only be working there whenever I can like on breaks.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Study habits<ol start=\"1\" type=\"a\"><li>Is there a difference between \u201cstudying\u201d and \u201chomework\u201d? &nbsp;Explain your answer. <strong>The differe<\/strong><strong>nce between studying and homework is that I feel like studying is being very precise and some<\/strong><strong>thing you do overtime and homework you do it and you learn from it but it&#8217;s like in the moment.<\/strong><\/li><li>How much time do you plan to spend studying for each class every week? <strong>My studying t<\/strong><strong>ime right now<\/strong><strong>, it&#8217;s about an hour or two for each class but that&#8217;s only because school just started.<\/strong><ol><li>For which class do you expect to spend the most time studying?<strong>the classes I plan to spend the most time studying for is&nbsp; <\/strong><strong>chemistry and american past.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><ol><li>For which class (other than HLTH 101) are you expecting to spend the least amount of time studying?<strong> The class I plan to spe<\/strong><strong>nd the least time on is &nbsp;English.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Where do you plan to study?<strong> I plan to study in my dorm most of the time.<\/strong><ol><li>What potential distractions can you anticipate?<strong> A potential distraction for me is my phone.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><ol><li>How do you plan to avoid these distractions?<strong> I plan to avoid this distraction by turning my phone off for some hours of the day.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\" start=\"3\"><li>What time of day is your best time to study and why?<strong> I would say after lunch because in the morning I&#8217;m just not fully there and at night I&#8217;ll be ready to go to sleep.. the afternoon is like a very good time.<\/strong><\/li><li>This Fall, you are in online courses, some of which do not meet at a specific time, how do you plan to manage all of your assignments?<strong> I have a planner, and being very organized plays a big part.<\/strong><\/li><li>Think about all of your commitments i.e. job, family, social life (from a distance and wear your mask! #ReignResponsibly). How do you plan on balancing your various commitments?<strong>\u00a0 I plan on balancing the three by completing things early to allow me to have time for other things.<\/strong><\/li><li>Learning style<ol start=\"1\" type=\"a\"><li>What specific study techniques do you think work best for you?<strong> My best study technique is shutting all of my electronics off and having a quiet place to study helps me study the best.<\/strong><\/li><li>Do you use different study techniques for different classes?\u00a0 Provide examples<strong>. I basically have the same technique for studying because it just works well for all classes.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Connecting to campus<ol start=\"1\" type=\"a\"><li>Name one academic resource at ODU you can use to help you earn \u201cAs\u201d this semester. <strong>One academic resource at ODU is tutoring.<\/strong><\/li><li>Name one non-academic resource at ODU and how it can help you this semester. <strong>I think one non-academic resource at odu that can help this semester is the student rec center because you can go do things that will relieve stress.<\/strong><\/li><li>Name one resource you think you will use this semester.<strong> One resource I would use is The library and the librarian&#8217;s chat room.<\/strong><\/li><li>Name one resource at ODU you would like to learn more about, and why.<strong>I would like to learn more about the library, and all it has to offer when helping students.<\/strong><\/li><li>In high school, what clubs, organizations, or activities did you participate in if any?<strong> I participated in the yearbook club and I was in a miniature sorority for about 5 years.<\/strong><\/li><li>Is there a club or organization you plan to join this semester and what do you expect to gain from this experience?\u00a0 If not, why not?<strong> I expect to gain a lot of friendships and knowledge, by learning and listening to different opinions and ideas from others.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major\/Career What is your intended major and why did you choose this major?
