Writing Reflection 1
It has been a rough time to get where I am right now. There has been a notable difference between the first and the second essay I have written for UNIV 150. From being completely lost when it comes to face a blank piece of paper, to realize I can express myself with just a few rules and my own thoughts. There has also been a few things I found out I have to start working on more, as the correct use of words, or the punctuation. This writing reflection is going to be split into three parts: things I am doing correctly now and before taking this class, things that I have improved after this eleven weeks, and things that I still need some help with.
Before coming to this class I had a very little knowledge of English composition. Although my first language is not English, I knew some important rules for writing since I have taken English as my secondary language. These rules are, for example, the correct use of pronouns, the right spelling of a word, and the adequate capitalization of a word. Fortunately, I don’t have any problems and I keep doing these things right.
Thanks to this class, I have been able to learn some skills I did not know before. Since the first essay, I knew I had to work on some basic rules, as not shifting in person when writing a first person essay, or getting to know the importance of the details while explaining something. The good thing is that in my second essay, I made sure those mistakes did not happen again.
Unfortunately, my first language is not English, and some things are hard for me to understand, and sometimes I commit the same mistake all over again, because I do not realize. These errors would be using the wrong word in an explanation, so it makes it hard to understand, and the punctuation. This last one is making me crazy, because a lot of rules of punctuation are very different from Spanish.
Even though I am improving in a good rate, I need to keep working on my writing, as well as my English in general.
