It has already been 3 months before the first day of class. 3 months seem like a lot of time, but the truth is time goes very fast, and sometimes we don’t notice the improvement of our skills, just because we can’t realize the time we have been working on them. That is me now, and I have to say I have found less changes since the writing reflection 1. On the other hand, this class is helping me in a huge way when it comes to communicate in class. With “communicating” I mean writing, speaking, and listening.

This class is designed to help students pass the Writing Placement Test, in fact, that is our final test at the end of the semester. After 3 months, 4 essays, a few Journals, etc, my mind has switched the chip (Spanish expression referring to have changed the way you think or do something) with everything related to writing. In this last 2 essays, I have found out writing is very important in your daily life. Thanks to this class I have been able to write as English was my first language.

We could have the wrong understanding of a what is a language if we can’t relate all types of communication. With this I mean that writing a lot of essays is not always the best option to learn how to write perfectly. For example, speaking correctly also helps because we tend to make less grammar or spelling mistakes. Being able to talk in front of class made me find the correct words in a short amount of time, as it happens when writing.

Lastly, listening is essential. Fortunately, Dr. Skrobacki’s voice and accent is perfectly understandable. After 4 months here in the U.S, I still can not understand everybody, so having a professor with a clear voice is really helpful. Also, she does not slang words at all, so all the vocabulary I learnt in this class have helped me write essays properly.

After these 3 months, my writing has improved a little bit more thanks to the three basic ways of communication: speaking, listening, and, of course, writing.
