Information security is a key discussion about cybersecurity, as information is one of the most sought things on the internet and in many cases can be used in malicious and fraudulent ways. In the reading, Information Security is defined as “the protection of information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction in order to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability” (​Nieles, Dempsey, & Yan Pillitteri, 2017, p​. 2). Because of its relevance in a society where so much information is stored and sent through the internet, connected to the Cloud, or can be accessed digitally, many organizations rely on information security. Additionally, the government has also passed laws regarding Information security. However, there are both societal and cultural factors that are considered constraints on information security. Although an organization or business can do a lot to try to get people as individuals to comprehend the concept, implementation, and the importance of information security, people will still view it in different ways. People are also allowed to make certain decisions on their own about their own privacy and security. An organization has to make the security easy enough for the average person to use while still being effective in protecting the information of that person. As society and culture go hand in hand, the culture of the organization or company has to also support the individual in having a basic knowledge of information security, privacy, and general cybersecurity concepts. The reading also highlights the importance of privacy in this section and discusses its’ connection to information security, which it describes as a “symbiotic relationship” ​(Nieles, Dempsey, & Yan Pillitteri, 2017, p. 11). To both the organization and the individual, it is important that everyone is taking the most effective measure to say secure and safe on the internet, especially with their information.
