Bridge Windows Systems for Cybersecurity
This course teaches the fundamental configurations, operations and techniques of Windows Server. It also covers the Windows Admin Center, a server management application. Understanding and managing Windows server domains using PowerShell, Active Directory, Windows Server administration, user, and group management to security settings. Server administration, implementation, and management of key technologies such as Group Policy and Network Policy Server (NPS). Configuring and maintaining Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Server maintenance, disk management and firewall administration, IP addressing and subnetting, network configuration and troubleshooting.
Windows Server Manager 2019 & Admin Center Configuration
In this project, students were required to configure Windows Server Manager & Windows Admin Center. Steps to be completed in this project included, establishing the Domain Controller for the server environment, configuring ethernet settings for the server, installing Admin Center, and connecting to the domain controller through the admin center.
Domain Name System (DNS) & Dynamic Host Configuration (DHCP) Set Up
In this project, students were required to install and configure a DNS & DHCP server on Windows Server Manager. Two systems are crucial to the operation of a Windows Server Environment. When both DNS & DHCP server are configured, correctly, they provide avenues to other operations of other systems within a Windows Server environment such as Active Directory.
Course Reflection
This course gave me experience with a side of the Cybersecurity & IT world that I hadn’t had the opportunity to interact with. Being able to go hands on and not the typical slideshow with information was much appreciated. Adding and configuring users on the network, installing and configuring the different servers, and using command line to complete tasks was a different experience. Orginally being reserved in my ability to do those things without guidance, eventually turned into confidence. Often times, I ran into trouble getting the servers and other components to work right, but through perseverance and trail and error, I was able to succeed. This course highlighted the fact that everything with computers is not straightforward. There will be some tough patches and periods of starting over, but with guidance and and patience, success is achievable.
