SPAN 101

Exploring Culture

While learning Spanish there were several items that helped me to gain an understanding of the Spanish culture. We had to view a video on different holidays in Spain and pick our best one. I learned that Spain has a lot of different holidays and most are very festive and come with a lot of colors and people are very happy.

My reflection about learning Spanish is that it is a great language to learn as it’s always needed in this society. This is one of the languages that many learn because of its transferability. The materials that the professor placed in the modules like Duolingo, contresena, and more were able to help me with learning Spanish. The products used for the class didn’t change my worldview, with all the visuals it helps me better understand the language. I didn’t encounter any challenges to my perspectives. I didn’t encounter any sterotypes or misconceptions of any kind.

Engaging in Communities

The value of my engaging in my community is very important. As I volunteer for a non-profit that helps underserved populations I get to experience helping them and showing them how they are able to have home ownership and learn about credit and also show them that we are here to help them in the American dream. We teach credit counseling as well as help small businesses with grants.

Interpersonal Communication

While looking through the classroom and viewing what was included in our classroom, we had Duolingo, contresena, cobly grammar, polly lingual. We also had a discussion board on speaking about our favorite person. I choose to do this on my niece as she is one of my favorites because she is 6 and very smart.

In working on some of my Spanish assignments and having conversations with my Professor I learned alot. I have grown much better at doing the visuals with my professor and hearing her pronounce the words. Also working with the flipgrip and having to answer our peers’ discussions and speak back to them was great. I encountered difficulties with conjugation. I have grown with each assignment from our first flipgrid to our last one where I spoke of my favorite person my niece. The way I worked with the difficulties of verb conjugation is that I just decided to write it down on paper and studied it every day. I excelled on some of my exams because I do better when I have a chance to just think and take my time. Doing the flipgrid and speaking to the professors were not my favorite things as they placed me on the sport.

Presentational Speaking

While studying and practicing my Spanish with my family I found it very difficult to learn verb conjugation. I had some challenges with Ser and Estar as well and some other words that mean the same, you just had to figure out when to use them. What I did to excel is to repeat several times and also wrote them down also what I would do differently next time is try and study more.

Interpretive Listening

While studying Spanish and working with my Professor during our conversations, listening to the questions she asked and answered was interesting. I completed a few videos where our Professor asked us to make a few videos and also make a video of our response to questions and answering and then asking our peers questions and also answering their post video.

I listened to a few of my peers videos and also we had alot of our videos showing us how to pronounce our words and in what context to use it.
