Workplace deviance is defined as, “deliberate, malicious attempts to sabotage an organization by causing problems in the workplace.” The development and advancement of cyber technology has also brought along and created problems for businesses and people within their places of work. Many people around the world experience or have experienced some type of workplace deviance. Some types of workplace deviance may include aggressive behavior, unproductive behavior, disrespectful behavior. These problems have become a more evident problem as our society has become more reliant on technology. As a result of this, it has created many different types of opportunities for workplace deviance. Now that computers are basically in almost every place of work, this ultimately gives employees and employers free access to the internet. Instead of working, these individuals may find themselves online shopping, watching some sort of show or video, or even playing some type of game. This causes problems in the workplace because these individuals are using up time on cyber technology that is strictly supposed to be spent on work related activities. Not only does it take away company time, but doing these activities can bring viruses and other types of malware into their systems as a result of being on websites that they are not supposed to be on. Without proper cybersecurity programs put in place these computers can become easy targets for cyber attackers. Another way cyber technology has created an opportunity for workplace deviance ultimately resulted from a recent event in our world, Covid-19. Covid had forced us into a way of life that we were not too familiar with which was working remotely from our homes. Two years later, people are now misusing this way of work and are really using it to their advantage to get out of work. This causes problems for their place of work because they are intentionally not doing their job.
